Xbox One controller issue

After a while I decided to play RE4 again using my shiny new Xbox One controller (the newer ones that you can connect via bluetooth). In the menus I didn't notice anything weird, but as soon as the game starts the camera instantly points to the sky and almost every button takes me to a menu instead of doing the function it supposedly has. So I have 3 buttons taking me to the map, 2-3 taking me to the pause menu and the rest to the inventory. The only ones that seem to work are the triggers (because probably they are not registered as buttons but as an axis).

I went to the input.ini file to check if somethings wrong and I can't make sense of it. Except for the keyboard inputs which seem ok, I have at least 3-4 different gamepad configurations. I'm not sure if it's just for the different type of controllers that Steam supports (PS4, Xbox, generic, Steam controller) or that they represent the same gamepad thus creating conflicts.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I have not tried wih this game yet, but I'm sure x360ce will work. Freeware. You can completely customize your inputs for each game. I know it works with RE 5.

Honestly I wouldn't try wireless. Too many things can go wrong. I use a less expensive Logitech controller and it works great. x360ce is a XBOX360 controller emulator.

for me the new xbox one controller works fine. have you tried installing the game again?

I haven't but what I did was play around with the input.ini and that is where it seems I have the issue. For some reason it creates 3 different profiles for the same controller and that is where the conflict seems to be. If I leave only the Xinput configuration, the game kinda works but I can't push buttons at the same time. If I try to run for example it keeps stoping, but everything else seems to be ok.

yeah I'm using the XBoxone controller as well on my PC using RE4 It's okay when wired but if via bluetooth it is registering as a bluetooth LE controller something on the game making the button configurations like a genereic controller

just an update I've setup the controller config on Steam setting and tick the following -Guide button focus, XBOX config support and Generic gamepad config and it makes the XBOX One controller recognized by the game even on Bluetooth.

I have the exact same issue as you. I'm working through what you just said but I don't know if I understand what you were saying. Are you saying to tick the Guide Button focus? Is that going to screw with the Xbox live overlay thing that pops up when I hit that button?

I will mess around with the settings you mentioned and hope I get it working.

Just had this happen to me today, turns out it was my cable disconnecting and reconnecting so tried a brand new one and no issue.

Digging this one back up because a Google search for this problem landed me here. This solution solved my instance of this problem. It seems RE4 and some other games are able to see these controllers as both generic XInput and Xbox One controllers simultaneously. Ticking these boxes in steam eliminated the XInput listing from the RE4 menu for me and the game is behaving normally again.

To clarify exactly where to go in case you're like me and don't normally peruse Steam's inner workings: Steam > Settings > Controller > General Controller Settings
That will open a new window and you can check the relevant boxes.

I'll bring the thread back, because I have a similar issue, and I tried a lot of things. The problem started once while I was alt-tabbed out of the game. Xbox one controller buttons got all messed up. Leon started always looking to his left, he doesn't pull knife out (animation begins but doesn't finish), reloading and shooting sometimes won't work, and running button brings out the map.

I tried verifying game files, reinstalling multiple times, deleting and making the game recreate the user input file in documents folder, played around with input.ini file (which sometimes solved the issue partially, but dealing with that is so tedious I just gave up after 4 hours of tweaking it, improving it slowly but still much work to be done). I also played with steam controller settings on steam as above posts recommended. I also played through the game twice last week before this issue started.

I have a feeling tinkering with input.ini will be the key. Can I ask someone to copy the content of their input.ini file just in case reinstalling for some reason doesn't restore the original?
Alternatively we can solve the game not treating my controller as both types of controllers at the same time (the xinput_controller parts seem fine), but the above solutions didn't work for that.

Get a lower cost controller with USB wired. You're using an XBOX wireless controller correct? Console products they days are designed to be garbage. Wireless is cute, but doesn't work reliably like good old wired connections.

You do realise this is over 5 years old, right? I'm sure OP figured it out by now.
