Thanks! Yeah, the way input is handled for special characters is different in the command line vs. a free-entry input form like the alias editor.
You mentioned the period (.) doesn't work on the command line. I can't think of when a '.' is needed on the command line...?
See v26 for all that's been added in this version, and the updated known issues thread for more about how to map the keys in the Unity Launcher.
I see what you are saying, but can you just do it without the SHIFT? Looking at your keyboard layout, looks like it would be comma (,) and pound (#) instead of semi-colon (;) and apostrophe ('). So yes you know "," isn't ";", but at least it's the same key...
Or does that not work, either?
Unfortunately that mapping is a Unity thing (no config file that we control). I'm really confused because any key I use works. Wish I knew what was going on on your keyboard. The fact you can see it in the editor should mean using that same key in game will work. I'm afraid I'm at a loss.
I think at this point, you only have two unfun solutions to solve this. You can go back to the build "main" branch. Alternatively, if you want to stay on the "future" one, you can also backup you data, reinstall, then put back the data (which will keep your progress). Sorry - I don't know a smoother way to get you back to what you had.
Except - what key did you use before the mapping was exposed? Can that key not be mapped ? :)
Sorry about this - I had hoped this would give you something to use until we have time to work specifically on this issue. I guess I'd say this is a warning to anyone else who may try this as well...
Interesting point about the icon toggle showing up in the command line. I'll look into that.. .
Remapping is working fine with a french keyboard.
For those who might not want to install future branch update, I found that the key for semicolon is SHIFT + $ ($ alone inserts both the $ and ;). So that's actually £.
Hope this helps.
It's really annoying in a game where you have to TYPE commands that the keys don't map to the desired character. Changing to UK keyboard in order to be able to select the drones is one (very annoying) thing but not being able to type the character efficiently is just a deal breaker for me.
Running fine on Linux (although the game is surprisingly very demanding on ressources).
Sorry about the frustration :) I'm thinking off the top of my head on the solution (function keys), but check out the forums for more recent posts if that doesn't work.
Thanks!
The game reloads the file each time you type "alias", so this seems like an ok workaround...
