If you like pause menus that don't pause, PLAY THIS GAME!
I've put this game on pause several times, only to be killed of hypothermia. Why does it say 'Resume' if all the game mechanics still run while in the menu?

It's messed up that the only solution is to craft an item, wait for the game to register the thermal source, then move around til you find a 'balanced' spot to stand on. This isn't an MMO, it's a single player voxel builder. If you can't get the game to pause while the menu is up, you have serious flaws in your code.

The menu is broken, the game is full of bugs that wipe out your progress or fail to display parts of the level.

Ya know, that's a good question.
So many times I needed to pause the game, but it wouldn't really pause.

Because you can resume playing once you click that? :D

No, because it never pauses while on the PAUSE menu

I suspect the main reason is because pausing a Unity game isn't really all that simple. Everything you see happening is separate scripts being called by Unity, some of which will need to continue running in pause mode, some shouldn't. Some items will get upset with the sudden jump in the game time when it unpauses, and that needs to be handled by the pause mechanism. With this being early access the question to you has to be "Of all the things that don't work properly or are incomplete, do you think this is the most important thing they should be working on?".

If not, there's your answer. With a programming team of two they don't have the benefit of being able to delegate low skill but tedious tasks like this to the new guy or intern.

As for dying, I'd recommend for now sticking yourself next to a torch when you leave for a bit. Once you get a suit heater you don't need to place yourself that accurately and you'll be fine for ages.

Okay, I'm not sure if you noticed, but when the game runs automated systems, it's kind of SUPER BROKEN that everything still runs in the PAUSE menu.

This is something that inherently breaks the game for someone that can't spend hours on end sitting at it. If it's not high priority, then this game is garbage and should not be purchased.

Not sure how it makes things "super broken"? Your argument of it breaking the game for someone that can't spend hours on end sitting of it is a bit odd. Since if it automatically pauses when you don't sit at it and thus can't process resource, wouldn't that be a bigger issue for someone like that?

I think you're being overly dramatic. The lack of working pause doesn't even make my top 20 of things I'd like to see done next in the game. It's easily worked around by closing the game if you're gone for hours, or leaving yourself in a safe place if you're gone for a shorter time (you then get the added benefit of there being a load of resources sitting waiting for you when you get back).

You're welcome to add it to the "What would you like to see done next" sticky thread of course.

Everyone has a different opinion about what is most important, if you're going to throw your toys out of your pram and call a game garbage just because your personal priority isn't being worked on right now I'd have to say that early access games aren't for you.

No, because it never pauses while on the PAUSE menu

"Resume playing" meant in the way of, you can't actively play while that screen is up

It does NOT pause. That's the problem. If I walk away for 3-5 minutes, I'm dead 50% of the time when I come back

The help menu doesn't display via menu, the menus don't pause. The graphics glitch out and leave huge sections invisible. Energy randomly disappears, whole stacks can be erased by clicking them incorrectly. Pining doesn't work ~25% of the time.
In my reading about this game, it was implied that it was playable. This is an unusable game if you can't walk away for two minutes without 'preparing' first. WTF is a PAUSE menu for?
hmkagm 2014년 12월 26일 오전 10시 03분
this has been answered some time before and if i remember the game does not pause it lets YOU take a break so YOU need to find a safe place to be and then you can carry on playing when you get back.

Just plop down a torch? I've been away for over an hour and didnt die..

"The help menu doesn't display via menu"

That option didn't used to be on the menu at all, the graphics were changed but it wasn't hooked up. I've been moaning about that one myself for a while so I'll grant you that one.

"the menus don't pause"

The topic of this thread, which I don't consider to be a major issue really. In the build I was just playing it was simply called the "options" menu rather than a pause menu.

"The graphics glitch out and leave huge sections invisible"

I only see this happen in a couple of situations. It can happen when you first start a new survival world if the land near where the ship crashes hasn't generated. Some work has been done to make that less of an issue, and eventually when there's a proper intro it wont happen anymore. Still does need to be further improved though.

Also when you join a world, for some reason the first segment it loads can remain invisible until all other segments have loaded. I've looked into this one myself and as far as I can see the code is fine, unity simply isn't rendering it until the thread finishes and I'm throughly confused about why.

Using super build or super dig and leave some blocks invisible until you place and clear a block.

I've not had issues in other circumstances, have you?

"Energy randomly disappears"

The only energy disappearance issue I'm aware of is the suit battery upgrade doesn't turn on straight away when you join a world so you start with 256 energy instead of how much more than that you had. Is that the issue you have, or is it something else?

"whole stacks can be erased by clicking them incorrectly"

Really? That must be a new bug because I've never had that.

"Pining doesn't work ~25% of the time"

Do you mean mining? Could you provide some more information on what you mean here.

"This is an unusable game if you can't walk away for two minutes without 'preparing' first."

Stick a torch down next to you and make sure your temperature bar is fine. That's pretty much all you need to do. Unless you're in the cold caverns if you've got a suit heater and some energy in your suit you can wander off for a while without even doing that. Hardly unplayable.
