Changing from Creative to Survival mode

Ok so this might be a dumb qustion, but when I change a world from Creative to Survival using Ctr-S, it says it's changed but when the world starts it's still in Creative. How do you get it to change to Survival? I want to try this mode but my worlds don't want to change.

You can only change a world you havent started yet to a survival world. You cannot convert existing worlds to survival. In other words go to a new world slot and hit CTRL+S to start a survival world.

But it's a bug that the name changes when you press ctrl-s on an existing world, even if it doesn't actually work. So we'll fix that.

Just curious, are you going to implement the ability to change between survival/creative in the future? Or will worlds be restricted to survival/creative only?

Survival and creative load different assets and have different world generation. This makes switching between them practically impossible.

Maybe we'll have some sort of cheat mode in survival at some point that will allow you to do creative-like things, but that's very low on the priority list.

Blueberry there are no ore veins in creative nor caverns that I have seen. I would assume that creative skips the generation process for those becuase it is a creative.

Kinda related... I have a game I started in survival but my computer crashed while playing. When I load up the world now, it is in Creative mode! If I can't convert it back, I've lost many hours of game time. :(

Couple things you can do - you can try creating a new survival world, then copying the world.dat file over to your old world. Or you can try this tool I made a while back. It's kind of outdated and could ignore/reset some newer settings (like mob difficulty), but it may preserve some more important settings like the world seed. Either way, back up your current world.dat first.

yeah, world seed is the problem - if you copy the world.dat from a survival world then any new world gen won't match up with your old world, leaving ugly gaps
