Ore Smelter Forced Induction disappears
I have seven deep sites, each of them consists of an Ore Extractor and Ore Smelter (not the basic one) with a T2 Forced Induction. At one of the sites (-433m) which extracts and smelts gold, the Forced Induction keeps disappearing. I've stood and watched it for 20 minutes and nothing happens, but when I leave and come back hours later, it's gone.

This is the deepest site, though there is one just ~25m away at -403m which never has a problem. Is this a bug, or am I not supposed to smelt at that depth?

Probably a bug. The devs have mentioned that they do plan on making it so smelters wont work very far down, like the PTGs, so if you want to continue using this world in the future you might want to move all smelting operations to the surface and use something fast to get the ore up there.

Absolutely no idea. Forced Inductions haven't changed, barring adding the achievement, in a long time. If they happen to straddle a segment boundary, they will pause to pull in the segment, but will still do so.

Currently no code is in place to nerf deeply-built smelters, but this will happen over a number of patches.

So - no idea.

This had me thinking, so I checked all of my sites with F9 turned on. There is something unique about the site where the inductor disappears:

All the machinery, conveyors, and hoppers are just below the segment boundary, the inductor is just above it.

It looks like if it takes the segment below it more than 1 seconds to load it'll destroy itself (dropping itself as a pickup), it has code that is supposed to cope with waiting for the segment to be available before doing this but it's faulty.

I'm having this problem a lot in my current world. I built the smelters into the floor around the CPH, the forced inductors on top. So, level -1 and 0, I guess. I've had 15 of my 21 forced inductors come off with no apparent reason.

Can confirm the same bug, I was building them into the floor and the induction keeps popping off. Even when building them into the same level as the other smelter, the top pops off, or 1 level above the top pops off.

-edit with updated info.

Is this mainline or beta?

This is a mainline bug.

This is becoming VERY annoying. For starters, this keeps happening. I can't determine a pattern as to when it happens. BUT, last time, I couldn't find the inductors. Usually, I just go, pick them up, and replace them. I had to recraft the inductors from scratch. Beside rebuilding my entire smelting system so that it is one block higher, I'm not sure what else to do.

your smelters are on segment lines, the smelter is in one segment, and the induction is in the segment above it. so if the segment on top gets loaded without the segment below being loaded, the induction thinks its not sitting on a smelter and pops off.

move your smelters up or down one block and see if that fixes your problem. And id keep them a block or two away from the CPH just to be sure its not breaking them. you never know.

This may be a BFL-9000, are there any 5x5 holes nearby?

Thank you for asking. No, there are no 5x5 holes nearby and the surrounding equipment (a lot) is unaffected. I'm aware of what the BFL-9000 can do and I am always careful when placing it.

EDITED FOR GRAMMAR

Quick update. I went ahead and took the time and effort to move the smelters up one block. So far I haven't had any problems with the inductors. It seems to have fixed the problem. So help me out. For for future reference, how loarge are the segments and how do I determine the segment barriers?

if you press one of the function keys (I think it's F9, but i'm not sure off the top of my head) you will see a grid around the segment you are currently in

I've seen that by accident! Thank you. I didn't know what that was.
