About ore: conveyors are too convenient here. You can split them at any point, can build them gradually, can bend path etc. What i am thinkning that for cargo should exist (relative) long-distance transport with different properties. (Good for caverns, cheaper bot less flexible, cheaper per tile but neet time, resources and place to set up)
And the player should have the initiative to change transportation somewhere between vein and surface. It will make bases more eleborate.

But really, everything in the game is vertically oriented. There is only one horizontal digging tool and even that is hopelessly useless. Diagonal digging tools, zero. Diagonal and free-target power transfer, zero. And on top of that the player only knows the vertical coordinate. How can you do anything non-vertical with that? Only very laboriously, that's how.
Just, you know, faster :P
