Hivemind invasion! Where the hell are they coming from!?
My world is on the current version of the game, it is over 56 hours played. All nearby hiveminds had been blown up.

As I was at my base, I look and find hard resin tendrils literally growing from inside the ground and touching my CPH. I follow the resin, and it turns out to be a massive and long hollow tunnel! I follow it and find what is without a doubt, a hivemind that was not there before. Not only that, but after blowing it up, I found it was massive, which should be impossible because I had long ago converted all underground conveyors to pipes. Mynocks can't spawn.

After that, I start noticing there are tons of hiveminds around the area I've never seen before, a few even with the core above the surface.

I also noticed that, instead of their cores being purple in the K screen, they are either Red or Green.

What is happening?!

Who fed the Troll after midnight?

Hive cores color on the Holobase was changed for debugging, so the Active Hivemind will be Red and the Inactives will be green.

Maybe the hiveminds have been there all along, but you havn't noticed because the old purple color was hard to spot against the black background in the holobase view. Green and Red stands out a lot more.

As for them growing without any conveyers :( That's strange.

Thanks for proving my point. If he reads that with a clear head laguy will see exactly what I meant. He won't change his mind or say anything about your comments though. It's more comfortable for cowards to sit on the bandwaggon. Wait... I'm being condescending again aren't I. Only the ones on the bandwaggon are allowed to do that.

Not sure who you are referring to as a coward, but lets just pretend that is another of your "non-condescending" comments regardless of who it was pointed at.

The only way a hivemind could possible 'spawn' is if, for some reason, your segment got corrupted and decided to regenerate; it'd spawn exactly where the old one did (Hivemind spawns are predetermined)

Green hiveminds are the active ones, red are inactive; only the closest (green/active) will grow. Hiveminds will perform a *minor* growth on reload of the game, but should go to sleep and, bugs aside, can only grow if they are fed by a mynock.

So, short answer; dunno. /Probably/ you just didn't notice (hence the addition of the Hard Resin Dectector in Nightly Builds) and it snuck up on you, which is an amusing term for a process that can take 20-30 hours.

So, the good news; it can't hurt your base. At all. The absolute worst is could do would be to encase your base, but as long as you can place down some Ablators and Liquifiers, you can claw the territory back.

Good luck!

The change to red/green squares came with a slight change to how hive minds work. The red one is the one that is being fed by any mynocks. All mynocks will feed the red one. All others are green and they are there so that you can actually find them and not confuse them with the red one.

Just to be clear; the behaviour hasn't changed. What changed is a much less rubbish readout for players to understand my obtuse system a little better.

Number of known worlds actually wrecked : 0.

Please enjoy your 24h ban, and use this quiet time to reflect upon your attitude within this community.

Are the green or red hiveminds the active ones? I thought red was growing (red is the one my hard resin detector points at).

Pft, now that the little argument is gone, I can actually continue the thread!

So it seems that, perhaps, I DID have them there before and the K menu didn't show them clearly enough because it used to be small and purple. But I still have a question...

WHY did the one hivemind, that was very far from my base, decide to make a completely sealed and hollow tunnel of Hard Resin that went in a straight path to my CPH?

*slaps self*

Red is dangerous, Green is not.

That's... not what it should do. Are you SURE you don't mean Soft Resin...?

Wow, It's so quiet and pleasant now that 23carat is gone. We can actually focus on the task at hand: Discussing the threads topic :)

My hivemind also kept growing when I was sure I had placed guns at every conveyer-area. Only when I noticed a shortage in my lithium supply did I notice (went to inspect the setup)...
My turret couldn't reach that one point on one far conveyer. Quickly corrected and it stopped growing.

Are you sure there aren't any leftover, or stray out-of-turrets-reach conveyers anywhere?

100% sure that it was HARDENED resin. It was completely unbreakable, and I managed to follow the tunnel from my CPH all the way to the core of it

Perhaps it realised its error by growing in all directions at once and took up a more direct and aggressive approach? :P

In all seriousness, I previously found strange happenings with faraway Hiveminds too (i.e. one of them was half square because it was somehow blocked at some neighbouring segment boundaries). Maybe if its growth was blocked in this way on all other fronts, could it be that it directed literally all growth into this one huge 'tunnel' tentacle?

This sounds interesting, could you post a screen shot so we can see what it looks like?

Here you can see it touching the CPH, this was when I discovered it
http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/494645350099645269/07014D12DFEBE502FCD49B3EB7B3D22D6A91802D/

Short ways after following it, it comes across an open gap and you can see the surface of it

Inside the resin tunnel. I tried finding ways to get out, it is completely sealed, no holes in it except for beginning and end

The end of the resin tunnel. Just out of view is a Level 4 detonation crater, where the core used to be.
