items disappearing in hopper?
I see them go in, then storage space goes from X to 100..... there is NOTHING else attached to the hopper, just a single belt going in. I keep seeing this repeat. Whats going on exactly. Anyone else seen this?

I also have items spawning out of thin air on conveyer belts not attached to anything.......

1) maybe screenshot so we can see this belt and hopper?
I think best screenshot for that would be when you start somewhere higher than hopper and look at hopper diagonally, this way we see all sides of hopper and be sure that really nothing is attached ;D (if hopper itself floats then even better, because this way we can check if anything is connected from the bottom)

2) is it modded hopper? or vanilla hopper?
there are mods for hoppers that teleport items and hoppers that destroy items
there are also broken mod items, they might screw up hopper displays

3) in this game "items" are different from "blocks", different stuff happen depending on that so it's worth to specify what exactly goes into hoppers
blocks can be found in the world, and most of them can be built
some have restrictions and cannot be built (like ore), they give you text information in left bottom corner when you try to build them

in case of items...
they cannot be built, and they don't inform you about this fact when you try to build them
some of them can used for special effects, like ampules, boosters, pings etc

Maybe textures of some machines don't load properly for you and are invisible?
I have had it happen few times, but it was sooo random I couldn't reproduce it

There's nothing to see......Its 10 belt blocks feeding into a hoppe... with 0 items in ir. There's nothing else to see but rough hewn rock.
Its an ordinary hopper, with ordinary belts. There is nothing else.

I tried 3 times to search for that thread......

seems that disappeared too.

1) Did you try steam game's integrity check already?
2) Does this happen in totally new world with 0 mods? (on rapid you get hopper with some conveyors for test, lots of rock/detritus nearby to dig and transport, or transport the starting coal)
or it only happens in this one world that you test? (well, are there any mods?)

vacuum mode would have reverse effect :D
items would appear out of nowhere in the hopper

the problem is that items dissapear

well, it's theory but
probably his internet or yours internet can't handle multiplayer at certain point and desyncs

something happens for you, but it doesn't happen for him
or something doesn't happen for you, but it happens for him

once the internet catches up, the game syncs and you start to see what host sees


soo, when the issue happens... did you try to ask the host if he has the same problem with stuff dissapearing?

also it might simply be mod that doesn't have multiplayer support and is used on multiplayer, it can break random stuff

currently the only way to check if mod supports multiplayer is to ask modder (but most of time they won't know if it does) or check the code of mod

After mentioning it to the server host, he had the same theory about network synching. I guess its a bug in the netcwork code. DJ must have missed something to clear something.

it's either DJ or the host set server to not kick people who have bad/unstable internet
normally game kicks people out when desyncs happen

There is clearly an issue with the network code :)
Granted, network code can be complex.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience, you were pretty thorough with the game play mechanics.

Nothing wrong with the network code. It just can only perform regular syncing so frequently. If the server host has limited bandwidth, you'll get updates from the server infrequently. This is especially true if you're not directly staring at the machine in question as frequency of updates is drastically reduced when not directly looking at it to keep the game playable with more than a few people on the server.

Uh... there's technical limits on any game. FCE is not able to break the laws of physics I'm afraid!

I have tried testing lift controller's button "check rails" and it didn't work for client (me) on dedicated server (server on the same PC)

Current way to use this button is to rebuild the lift's controller (acceptable workaround)

But the fact that button doesn't work is issue anyway.
Steps to reproduce:
  1. create new singleplayer world, build lift controller, deploy bulk cargo lift (let's say shaft depth 18, for test there is no need for long one)
    In my case bulk cargo lift didn't transport any items (it was just test of button), it was constantly powered by MK2 solar, and had hopper with rack rails attached
  2. host dedicated server on this world
  3. join server
  4. Insert one block into shaft to shorten the shaft (in this case it was basic red chevron)
    since shaft is 18 depth, just build chevron at 10 etc
  5. open lift controller's window and press "check rail" on singleplayer everything works fine, game counts shaft depth to 10 and ends scanning
    on multiplayer as client, the "shaft depth" stays at 18, the "check depth" resets to 0, after a while "check depth" counts up to 10 and... lift's controller breaks,
    it's in endless state of "scanning", if you spam button then it will set state of deployed lift to stuck and might display errors to clear blockage


I tried to rejoin server, but after I loaded the lift's controller was still stuck on scanning and errors were displayed in the lift controller's window

Despite of deployed lift state being "stuck" the lift was going up and down constantly without any problems (passing throught the chevrons I built, just like they didn't exist)
