VERTICAL Conveyor Belts?!?!
Um...so I just realized that you can build VERTICAL conveyor belts and they work just fine!! Does this not render completely unnecessary both sloped conveyers and mattermitters?? A vertical conveyer moves ore oodles faster than a mattermitter!

These vertical conveyers are RUINING MY IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE I tell you!!!

So are vertical conveyors not going to be coded out of the game?

Mattermitters serve a different purpose I feel.

I agree on the sloped conveyors though, I never use them. I think it would be bad to take out vertical conveyors, it would take too much room to make sloped all the way down to your iron at -80 early game.

Want to truly blow your mind? Try building a conveyor line on the ceiling! Seriously though its all good, and all the options have their uses. The sloped blocks are slightly faster since it can move an item to a spot that would otherwise take two conveyor blocks to reach, but they have problems with corners and interfacing with machines or hoppers in some cases.

Sloped conveyors are techincally faster, if all you care is about getting a single item from point a to point b. With that said they move the same number of items/minute as a normal conveyor. Theres a few other advantages to them when it comes with interacting with hoppers but beyond that they aren't necassary. '

Matter transmitter are useful for a few reasons. First is they are quick, a normal matter transmitter will move 300 items/minute, lots of power but very quick considering that's the same speed of even a transport pipe on rapid or double the speed of a transport pipe on normal difficulties. Matter transmitters also only hold a single item in them and can move that single item 64m forward, great for expensive items like a plasma cutter head that you don't need/want 64 stored, 1 on each conveyor. They are also cheap, mynock immune, and work fine in the cold and toxic caverns. Personally I don't use them often because they are power hungry but for what they do, they do it great.

There is a story behind why you can place conveyers on ceilings and walls. Basicaly Arcas took it out and people complained and review bombed. So he added it back. People also complained about ore jumping the gaps from certain angles, hence angled belts came to be... You simply can't please everyone but Arcas tries his best. ;)

And matter movers are a different beast than belts all together. For one they start out moving items twice as fast as tubes and go up from there.

Here is stats from the wiki so I don't know how acurate they are:

http://fortresscrafte.wikia.com/wiki/Matter_Mover

But as you can see they can move crazy amount of items.

They also cause your factory to react faster/smoother because of the near instant travel of items.

The single matter mover sends things a long ways for the cost of them. The first and second one are okay but the rest are kinda crap for doing long distance to be honest. Those ones can move a ton but they are feasable only for short distances.

They also don't drain as many of your computer resources as belts/tubes do for the same distance increasing the performance of your world.

Bottom line is that once you can make enough power to power the OET you should be putting in at least the single matter mover lines:

I rarely use sloped conveyors for the simple reason that they do not upgrade at all when using the autoupgrader and stop the autoupgrader from continuing. A horizontal + vertical conveyor however has no problems upgrading to crystal tubes.

I only use them for distrubting items to a hopper directly stacked on another hopper.

Mattermitters are pretty much essential for somethings like drill heads, at they were untill falcors could work in caves. The high tiers of mitters are amazing for lift-blast furnace movement but are such short range they are less than useless anywhere else.

the only problem I have with vertical conveyors is there isn't a transition block or transition in general between vertical and horizontal conveyors

If a conveyor is moving things faster than the mattermitter then you don't have enough power. Those things need LOTS of power but, like most machines in the game, will funtion with low power just a LOT slower.
