They should be immortal if I good remember. You can move lava somewhere and maybe he despawn? (I guess it would just stay in air and fly :D)

It can be killed with turrets but it has a ridiculous amount of hp.

The worms of the lava variety and the soft resin variety have 1.5 million health and 3000 hit points and are not targeted by missiles. You need to get close enough to make it pop up out of the ground because turrets won't shoot at it while it is hidden then you need to shoot it 209 times with Mk3 turrets or 3000 times with any form of weapon. You are probably best to think of them as invincible because they take such an effort to kill that it isn't worth doing considering that they may just respawn because the game tries to keep the world populated with a certain number of worms.

I believe that they despawn if you save and reload your game, but they may just respawn in the same area as long as there is lava there for them to spawn in. For the soft resin variety removing all the soft resin from the spawn area then restarting the game will remove them. If you are able to remove lava I assume the same could happen with the lava worms.

my MK3 lasers didn;t want to target the lava worms even if they were splitting lava on me and my gun wasn't hitting them too.

Yes, MK3 turrets target surface worms but don't want to target lava worms.

Ahh you're right. Looking at the code it appears that the turrets do not auto target fire worms, only the regular worms and missiles don't target either types of worms. If you can't shoot the worms with your gun then they may not even be killable or maybe you would have to do it with explosives.

I think generally the best tactic to take with worms is avoidance. They only pop out of the ground when you are within 16 squares of them and they only spawn on lava or soft resin so if you just stay clear of the lava and soft resinyou won't have much problem with them.

can they shoot you through reinforced wall ? Maybe I can just enclosed my subterrain base ?

Personally, I've found the only reliable method to be using Chargeable Explosives to nuke the lava they're in. I've used about 10 so far to clear out a nice big crater at the lava layer :)

They will just fly then

Right, but once they de-spawn, they're gone forever (at least, in my experience; I haven't run into any flying worms upon reloading)

For me in their place appeared small floating lava pond once they despawned :D It damages player and can't be mined.
But also I didn't restart game (just worm despawned) ;d Maybe that cause such effect.

I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the depth of the explosion, in that case. (I've seen soft-resin worms do that same thing when the area hasn't been cleared out enough.)

For reference, here's what my lava area looks like:

That's at lava-level; you can see three worms spawned there, but all of them in the lava rather than the cleared areas.

Here's the big crater, from above:

And here it is from the bottom:

As you can tell from the energy, I stuck around down there for a while to see if anything would spawn, but the only ones that did were worms at the regular lava level.

Also, automating Chargeable Explosives is a good idea if you want to do this :)
