The NOOB saga continues: Lithium?
So, with the help of BlaBla from the Discord, I have gotten kind of launched. I have coal, copper, tin, and iron being mined and turned into goodies. I checked the manufacturing thing and it looks like the next ore I need is Lithium. The wiki says it is between 160 and 850 depth.

So, 3 lift-with-piston later, I have found a cavery around 200 units deep. A quick scan shows some unidentified ore nearby. Here's the hitch: It's so cold in that cavern I die of hypothermia before I can run over and scan it, which means even if I could scan it, I'd die before being able to set up a mining sequence on it.

So....what do I do now?

You are going to have to find a vein of lithium (-160) above the cold caverns (-200). Thats the easiest way. And then build a suit heater with the proceeds. You also might try standing on a pile of torches to get the scan and place a machine or two on the lithium.

OK will go just above the 200 level and start scanning like a madman

The ore you have found with scan is probably crystal deposit ;D

You can scan stuff by breaking it and picking up -> try to get those blue blocks down there, you will need to scan one to get special research in your laboratory

-160 meters? That depends on difficutlty settings, then. I'm playing a rushmode world right now, and Lithium starts around -120 meters. Same for Rapid Mode worlds.

Recently started scarce and found my lithium vein at 128

I was going off the wiki.

Rule of thumb: You can find the next ore in the progression at roughly a lifts distance from the earlier one.

If you have power running down with your lifts, don't be afraid to break out the work floor excevator 1. MOST useful tool for finding ore. Once you get a ping that shows it's near, clear a region, boom.

Lithium is at -120 to -850m

How do you "run power down with the lift?"

Dig the 3x3 for the lift, dig 1 extra block and run power down.

Something like this.

I think they talk about laser energy transmitter running next to lift

I think the laser will even pass through the lift platform, so that you can directly target it at the piston - but maybe that was fixed, it doesn't look nice so I stopped using that "design".

Okay, this is a slow, quite quiet comunity, but I like it.
I give an offhand comment with a useful trick, and somebody else explains how to make it work.
