freight carts? whats the deal?
for the life of me i cant seem to get these things to work. Either they just crash into each other and choke up the rails or they dont actually pick anything up and move it. what am i doing wrong? bout to macerate the whole damn thing. for a point of reference, i am trying to take all of the cold cavern smelted bars from a lift to my mass storage sort system via freight carts. i have the quantity to move set high on the mass storage end, and nothing set on the lift end, that gave me errors, wouldnt take material onboard.... tried setting it to the relevant bars but with zero as the qty so it would pull from there still no joy. that and any more than 1 car on any rails no matter how many paths i provide = crash crash crash
wtf.

I can't really guide you with the stations as I'm still learning the systems in place but I could tell you about a trick I found out: Make a loop. For each station make an alcove. Set a moving direction (clockwise/anti-clockwise). Enforce that direction using 1-way tracks for any 1 track between 2 junctions. Make sure to use 1-way tracks for the station alcoves too.
I found out this to be necessary only when I used more than 2 carts in a loop.
I mainly use this system to transfer the mined ore from the extractors to the lifts. The stations don't like it when they're not connected to a hopper so make sure to have 1 at each station. For the station supplying the items, just set the cargo, without values or assigned carts. For the station where the items should go, in addition to setting the cargo, you need to specify the amount (hopper size if you want to have the carts return to the depots after fulfilling the order or bigger size if you want them to queue for drop-off) and the amount of carts that will get the items to that station. I had some problems with scrap ore minecrats getting ore from stations which had "wait until full" but I use the ESMS mod so idk if it's a core problem or mod-related. But this works fine if I have basic ore minecarts.

TL;DR: make loop, use 1-way tracks.

hmm didnt think to try a loop. some good insights ill try that thx

ohhhh so i figured something out. all those carts i was using to try and move bars had ORE in the name and i was too dumb to notice. is there any other freight cart for moving non-ore items aside from the scrap cart that shows no actual quantity carried? as of now ive got all the ore freighters and gas, but only the scrap cart can carry other things?

i tried using regular minecarts on the freight line and they just fall off when they hit a freight terminal

Maybe you have to research advanced minecarts to unlock the rest of the minecarts.
Wariat117 Dec 30, 2018 @ 3:27am
Freightcart minecarts:

Scrap Cart
Scrap Ore Freighter
Basic Ore Freighter
Fast Ore Freighter
Large Ore Freighter
Bulk Ore Freighter
Basic Tour Cart
Bulk Gas Freighter

And that's it.
Probably you have to use normal carts for other stuff.
Or "scrap cart" is good already?

well then thats confusing. why show items to be supplied tthat arent ore and then you can only move them with a cart that doesnt even show what it can actually carry? what excactly is "a limited amount" are we supposed to guess? DJ bro help us out here?

in the examples of the freight network it shows items that arent ore - IE parts for a recipe i think a casing and some other stuff. and it being setup as part of the freight nework. that means it HAS to be the scrap cart if its tthe only one that can carry that stuff

In this thread it says that scrap carries 50, no idea if that's still actual

nvm it's scrap ore freighter not scrap cart...

You have added some carts to my list, but they aren't in game... are those from your mod?
And tour cart was non DLC previously... Is it now locked behind adventurer's pack?
What does "FTFY" even mean ;d

and it seems I have guessed it right then

still there is question to explain then

They are in the game... they've been in the game for ages. Regular minecarts launched from freight cart depots are the standard (non-ore) tiers of freight carts. The depot determines the kind of cart - the item is just the classification. It just so happens there aren't ore-equivalent minecarts to launch from minecart depots.

wait... what?
Is it documented somewhere that freightcart station turns NORMAL minecarts into FREIGHTCART minecarts? (and that you can't craft the freightcart ones :V)

You changed the names ^ you won't find stuff named like that in the game, you could leave info that they are transmuted or something ;d

Anyway... are the transmuted minecarts better than normal ones? (faster/carry more) or exactly the same? (just so you don't have 2 different minecart networks for this)
SpleeN Dec 30, 2018 @ 11:20am
thats just it. i tried putting regular minecarts on a freightcart network and guess what? it didnt work. when the regular minecarts hit the freight pieces on the network they pop off as if they flew off the track. somethings not right here for sure. I have almost all research, efficient vein extraction and one other (requiring gasses) are all that im missing. the mass storage IO speed up i think is one of them.

when you press H on any of the freight terminals you can see examples for how to setup a freight network. in those examples DJ shows how to set it up to have something feed the network and how to get the other end to request items. So my question remains- what flopping cart do i use to do that? is it this scrap cart with the mystery carrying capacity? I assumed it was the entry tier cart not the end all be all with a mystery carrying capacity.

As far as I can tell they're the same but allow you to carry other things than ore on the freight system. But since they're being managed by the freight system then they're smarter :)
