BUG: Minecarts stuck in each other
As you can see in this picture, I have minecarts stuck in each other. It's maybe 50 or so, all standing in place. They still humm, which is quite loud, but don't move. I removed the track hoping they would fall, but there used to be a regular track underneath. Sending new minecarts also gets them stuck in the pile. The complete track used to work and I wasn't present when the bug appeared, so I just found them stuck and bunched up in three separate locations.

Any ideas?

Is this at a segment boundary (F9)? Might have overloaded the segment with mobs. Heard of another case of this happening recently. DJ recently capped the number of mobs in a segment to prevent other issues but it has led to issues with carts.

Pretty sure you are correct.

I took two more screenshots with the segment borders showing, and all the stuck carts are right on the border. And it was a pretty crowded minecart line. I don't remember how many I put on it, but probably around 200.

Now, how do I get them unstuck? And how to prevent the problem in the future? Is there a known safe number?

there is a mob cap [carts are a mob] of 100 per segment. if you account for a possible 2-4 camobots or whatnot, 95 is somewhat safe, tho some will recommend 80 or less.

i have had well above 10 in a segment in the past, here is a screenshot of 9 camobots

Thanks! I guess I will limit myself to 90 per line and use the more advanced carts to get the necessary throughput. But I still need to get rid of the stuck ones...

Admittedly, due to work, I haven't been able to play since a couple days after P21 hit mainline. But at that time, I was able to destroy minecarts with my gun.

Has this changed in P22? It's lacking a patch note in the bleeding edge thread if so :D

Despite leading to some agravating yet hilarious moments when I accidentally shot the wrong cart and wound up with a stack of 1000 Titanium Ore, it was actually really useful to clear off Minecarts who had a bad state after reloading the game (probably due to not having any MS to deposit their excess materials in, I have since learned).

there are 2 types of carts ingame, minecarts and freight carts. freight can be shot, minecarts cannot. this eventually leads to loads of confusion because half of what people are talking about is one/the other and they have VERY different mechanics.

oh and just to confuse things, if you launch minecarts through a freight depot they magically become freight carts until they drop off the track.

Turns out the stuck minecarts are even immune to chargeable explosive and nano...
So no way to get rid of them?

Scoot at them
Place blocks in them.

Like Brain De'Quantus said, they are minecarts and can't be shot. Placing blocks does not seem to do anything. They just continue to exist inside the blocks and are still there if I dig them out.
