Any advice for starting Frozen Factory?
Killed the overminds, and built and powered the CCCCC. It says the cryoplasm is growing.

Then I visited the p18 room demo server, and realized that I had just a mess of a base. Not utilizing lots of things that I should.

So can I take my time and redo the upper base with rooms, etc? or will that just cause a huge mess, or loss? How does FF work? Is there just some basic defence that I can set up too keep it from growing? Is it threat based?

thanks for any advice.

Haven't done FF in a while but I believe the basic idea is that you have a new set of turrets and a new kind of enemy. Cryoplasm is in my opinion a lot nastier than wasps because it has an awful tendency to interfere with the working of your base rather than just killing your CPH (which, future modifiers aside, only hurts when charging the orbital power transmitter). The threat model / cryoplasm expansion rate is roughly based on temperature rising in the cavern, which roughly corresponds to energy use I believe.

With sufficient defense you can prevent the cryoplasm from growing in specific areas where you have your base. Think areas where the new FF machines (which are generally quite big) are located.

Oh, and another thing. FF requires a LOT more resources than the base game. A base that produces enough bars, alloyed blocks, etc for building the orbital power transmitter and power generators for it will feel absolutely slow at the start of FF. This is why I'm spending a lot of time in my current (pre-FF) base making logistics scalable rather than going straight for the finish.

It depends on how much bars your surface base can squeeze out imho.

Imbued machine blocks (Adv. Machine Block + Mk5 Power Booster) are the 'raw material blocks' you'll need for pretty much 90% of the FF machines.

Makes sure to protect your lift shaft by surrounding them with block:

I'm just doing that at the moment. If cryoplasm get down there, it's going to be a pain to remove and unblock your lift.

Makes sure you have a solid energy production. The setup around the MK5 Battery in P18 Showcase server is a good starting point I think.

If you haven't already done so, automatize MK5 Forced Induction and MK4 battery. You're going to need a lot to speed up all you lift. It's a good way to find out the bottleneck in your logistic chain.

I haven't played FF in 9 months, and now we have rooms... I plan to use room to plrotect machine from cryoplasm in the cold cavern. I haven't played in a while but I remember it did something nasty to machine. I think I'll setup some kind of protected corridor to ensure I can access the room entrance even if the cryoplasm surround it...

The FF phase only begins once the Climate Control Centre (C5) has been placed in the cold cavern. Until you do that you have as much time as you want to upgrade/improve your surface base. IIR I used that time to make a gigantic resin farm.

As Somon suggested, you almost certainly do not make enough imbued machine blocks; I upgraded my IMB production capacity multiple times during my FF playthrough.

I already placed the ccccc and powered it. The cryo is growing. I was just wondering how much time I have to improve my top base.

The Cryo is generally more scary than it is dangerous.

Meh, the worms are worse. :) Half-distracted wandering into a worm gives that real physical "waaah" reaction. The cryo is just a nuisance that you see coming from a mile away.

Perhaps a info. Patchnote from P18:
CryoPlasm will not longer reach fully lethality until the player has at least setup a Frozen-Factory
T4 level smelting system.
What ever this means....

@NitroZark: The cryoplasm will be blocked with the white bricks blocks? Is this the only block, that can stop cryo?

In a previous patch at least the space windows used to work as well, don't know if reinforced blocks are really needed here.
