Hivemind multiplying?
Hey guys,

So I've been playing on the latest patch. Everything I read says that Hiveminds will multiply whenever you nuke them - only, I've got them spawning without having destroyed one!

I just built a hivemind farm around the active hivemind (completely caged with a handful of resin liquifiers/ablators around) that I've been feeding periodically to mine up some resin. The nearest other hivemind was probably 30-40 blocks away.

I had been off doing other stuff when I decided to venture out to the mine and collect resin and make sure everything is doing well. I get out there, and find that a new Hivemind has spawned within just a few blocks of my farm!

So my question is, what are the terms of these things spawning/multiplying? Does feeding them cause a new one to spawn every so often? Did caging the other one in piss them off?

Exploring can cause new hiveminds to appear. NEARLY ALWAYS they will spawn some distance from your base. Any that don't can be quickly dealt with via explosives

I saw agitated in the patch notes, but a significant portion of the discussion topics talk about them multiplying; so I just assumed that they started spawning more when they got mad.

That makes a lot of sense - this one was far from my base (base being CPH, I take it) so it wasn't some freak RNG. I had just made it down to the bottom of the toxic caverns, so that was probably far enough away to trigger the spawn if it's distance based.
I had this happen to me too (new hives spawning). I had setup a quarry about a hundred blocks from my CPH and got everything automated with matter movers and such. Everything was working fine so I quit the game. I loaded back up and played thinking everything was fine. I went to check my quarry and I found a hive had spawned in the path of my matter movers. That hive was not there before I logged off (I logged off very close to them). I was really surprised since I thought hives spawned upon world creation but stopped spawning new ones after that. I blew it up with a bomb along with any other hives within a 100 block radius. It hasn't happened since then, but I was really surprised that new hive spawned after having played for quite some time.

probably those topics are from time when p19 was in beta.
back then patch notes didn't say what happens to hiveminds and since there were more and more hiveminds... people assumed that they multiply
