How to deal with Giant Worm?
Apologies if this is answered elsewhere, I haven't found an answer after looking for a while...

I haven't played for quite a while, and I've got a decent base going. (new game). I came up my lift and this giant worm spewed on me when I got to the surface. There are a couple of turrets shooting at it, but I don't seem to be able to damage it. The spiderbot isn't going after it either.

What can I do to kill this thing?

Thanks.

Run away, and from a safe distance dig out all the soft resin (the black stuff). Superdig helps, but it can still take a while. Once the soft resin is all gone, the worm will eventually disappear. Going a good distance away, quitting and reloading will likely hasten this (I'm unclear on the mechanics). You can kill them, but your guns are not big enough yet.

You can build turrets, but the only real solution is prevention that means removing the soft resin

On lower difficulty you can kill them with your handgun ;D
On normal dofficulties it will take forever to kill it with turrets so either go far away so it despawns or restart game -> it will despawn too.
Also killing it isn't even worth it because new one will spawn soon :D

In order to prevent new worms just remove all the resin and block the path of tunnel nukers so they can't make new soft resin.

Reinforced wood and reinforced stone block tunnel nukers, other vanilla reinforced blocks don't block them. Multiblock machines work as wall too ;D
If you use mods then you can use reinforced cobble or glow tubes/large rocks to block them.

I researched the spiderbot cannon and was quite disappointed that I don't have half the materials (or access to) required to build it. I will try to remove the resin from a distance. I guess it's a good time to rebuild my lift system, the worm spawned right on top of my surface lift (luckily I had another access point so I could get below without being attacked).

Okay. Will do.

What are "tunnel nukers"?

Thank you all for your advice, it is much appreciated!

Tunnel nukers are bugs that drop kind of like a bomb that creates the soft resin. You'll hear the buzzing noise followed by kind of a splash sound. They can be hard to kill so usually you just clean up the resin after they make it. If you head towards the overminds (don't get too close though!) you'll have lots of chances to see them in action.......

Tunnel nukers are like old school suicide bombers. They fly from the overmind towards your cph and explode on impact to walls, mountains and other terrain. Leaving a gaping hole, black resin and sometime sweet sweet organic rock in theyr patch. They have 2 main goals in FC. Go out with a bang and make a path for the other bugs towards your CPH. Also, they look like glow in the dark flies.
Worms can be killed by turrets, (But not spiderbro i think) and will despawn after you remove all soft resin under them, or despawn, well, just eventually. They do have a load of HP tough, but never move.

They are type of wasp that goes towards CPH.
It looks like glowbug with big wasp's wings.
Once it gets close to anything that blocks it's path... it explodes... destroys most of blocks and turns the remaining ones into soft resin and sometimes into organic rock.

Glow tubes, large rocks, reinforced wood, reinforced rock and multiblock machines aren't destroyed on explosion so they can be used to block tunnel nukers from getting close.
Just build wall on their way, somewhere far from CPH :D (CPH=Central Powe Hub, this big first machine)

Tunnel nukers come from corners, there are big ugly things and those tunnel nukers spawn next to them then go towards your base destroying blocks on the way to create path for wasps.

You can open chat by pressing enter and once you type /coords it will show coordinates, those big ugly things are on
X:272 Z:272
X:272 Z:-272
X:-272 Z:272
X:-272 Z:-272
There are 4 of them, 1 per corner. Y coord (height) depends on seed ;D
If you build wall of reinforced wood or reinforced rock on the way between your base and those things then you will stop tunnel nukers from getting close to your base.
Thanks to this there will be no new soft resin and no new worms on your side of wall (You will just need to remove the resin that currently lays there)

Ahhh, thanks for the explanation! I didnt know anything about those, maybe that's what caused me trouble. And the worm did spawn on a diagonal from my base, so that makes sense. Going to go remove it now :)
