FortressCraft Evolved

scanner
i like this game love the new p18 update, i have one thing i think could be better, the scanner...
not that is isn't a great concept and it dose work great but the people i play with are color blind and can't get much out of it, i would suggest a color blind mode using different patterns of lines or dots they don't even need color they could all be white as long as the pattern was different for each ore, i get this would be kinda op so it maybe it'd be good as an option at the same stage as the color ore ping .

you can place a hopper with an item in it to filter the scanner to a single item type and have multiple scanners, 1 for each type, which should make it easy to tell what is what (the scanner will say)

if they are colorblind they should use a software like https://visiontechnology.co/
or use the specific ore ping

so you think if they are color blind they shouldn't get to have the convenience of the handheld scanner?

I think he is talking about "pings", they are items which you can craft and they show only 1 type of ore (the one which is in the name of item)

oh well yes thats one thing but thats seprate my issue is that the rest of us can use "color ore ping" but color blind people can't, even if the color ore ping had diffrent patterns of each ore aswell as color for the rest of us that would be good.

I think the difficulty is primarily around early game (and may even turn some perspective players away) is that at first you only have a scanner and need to even find the right ores to get your base up and running and to even have the potential to work around the issue slightly by crafting ore pings.

Even people not color blind can have trouble with the current colors, going to the same type or ore again and again by mistake.

So I agree that saying to use ore pings is not a viable solution.

The other question is the developers intent.

Is the reason that the scans are the way they are now to introduce artificial difficulty? Or is it because the colors looked cool and it just hasn't been a priority yet to make it a bit more usable.

Making better distinction between the colors doesn't reduce the mystery of not knowing originally what color is what or seeing multiple colors or having to go exploring. It just let's you focus more on enjoying the game that was actually designed to be played. Not a visual artifact.

I'd personally love to see the developers even add a bit more clarity on flexibility. Texture is one easy solution and might even be cool depending on what textures could come up. Could also just adjust the colors to be more distinct.

Many possibilities, just think the next logical step, especially if the goal is to grow the community...is to do something.

no only that they should use a software that tunes the monitor color line so they see a difference.
Or take another way to find the ore

The sad thing is. there are in fact a lot of people who don't understand color blindness and or blindness in general. and when you do point out issues that make something better for yourself because of a visiual impairment usually it also helps out the fully sighted users as well.

why should every game have a colorblind mode implemented (this cost a lot of time and money), when one right set monitor color or programm that does that for you can make everything look like it should. https://visiontechnology.co/ is one of many programms that does that. You can even test if you are colorblind and what kind. I bet there are a lot of people that are ignorantly colorblind

It is pretty confusing that "total color blindness" and "daltonism" (and others like this) are called "color blindess" (They aren't even similar ;-;) in english language o-o

if we want to support people with total colorblindness seeing only contrast/grey shades, then all textures have to be unique (now there are allmost the same and differ only in color, for ore in this case)
