Moving items between inventory and hoppers, keystrokes to use
Hello-
I've put many hours into the game and I greatly enjoy it. I wonder, however, if I completely understand how to move items back and forth between the inventory and hoppers.

I understand how you can use "T" and "Q" to move things. This is nice and intuitive, and sufficiently documented.

The thing I'm unclear about is when you press "E" to open a hopper and then "I" to open the inventory. I see you can drag and drop stacks from the inventory to the hopper. If it is a normal storage hopper (which stacks 100 items), when you drag and drop, you move 100 items.

I also noticed that when you click on a stack in the hopper, it moves the whole stack back to the inventory. If you shift-click, ten items are moved to the inventory.

Using these methods, I've been able to play the game fairly well, but I wonder if I'm missing some keystroke combo which would be useful. For example, is there a way to move just one item? Or half the items in a stack? Or indicate how many items to move?

Without opening the hopper GUI, use shift+t to transfer 10 pcs of the selected item from your inventory to the hopper and ctrl+t to transfer only 1. If you want to transfer from the hopper to your inventory in 1 or 10 pcs increments, you can do so only by opening the hopper's GUI and use the same keystrokes like before for 10 or 1 item. I forgot if it's a thing or not (not really used it myself) but try shift or control + drag-and-drop from the hopper to the inventory and back to open up a window to transfer a custom amount (i.e. 22 pcs).

Thanks, very helpful. I wasn't aware of the ctrl-key to move one item, and the shift-T for ten. I tried shift and ctrl-drag and didn't get any kind of dialog asking for an amount.

Shift-drag allows you to split stacks to any amount (there's a slider or you can type the amount directly into the dialog box) BUT only works within your inventory, ie you split the stack from one inventory slot to another, and not between different locations ie between inventory and a hopper.

It's a little clunky as you have to take a whole stack, split it, then put the unwanted stack back where you got it from, but on the other hand I don't really use it much either as I generally find there's little need too. Most of the times I want to do specific quantities it's into hoppers so ctrl/shift-T does the job, the rest it's for little-used crafting ingredients which I mostly keep in a crate pile I have line of sight to from roughly where I stand when making stuff, I don't even bother splitting the stacks mostly and just make whatever I need then dump the residue back into the crates to get it out of my inventory again.
