Dedicated Server.

My friend and me would like to open a dedicated server for us to play on. He has the game,downloaded the server stuff and tried to set it up. He has the game and the server on the same pc. He started the server using the .bat file and it worked,I could join but he couldn't because the game was already running. Does he have to get the dedicated server on another pc so that he can join to or did we mess up somewhere along the process? And yes,we tried following the server setup guide. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

yes you cannot play the game while running a dedicated server.

but you could host the singlepalyer game to make it multiplayer (more like you want it)

We tried the setup guide. He couldn't join.
We currently play his singleplayer world together. The goal was to have a world that I could join anytime,without him being online.

Maybe removing steam api files would allow to run server without steam triggering that you play this game already? (works for some games idk if it works here too)

Use the dedi server files from the tools section in steam. Using the same files for the server AND the game at the same time is calling for access problems.
For the guide, rought idea whats wrong? Want to correct it if possible.

My friend used the dedicated server from the tool section. He used it on his own pc once and on another pc using linux. He could host the game but couldn't join in both cases. I can't really tell you what went wrong. The only thing we can do right now is have him open his singleplayer world and setting that up for mp. :/

Did they fix the dedicated tool? Back when I tried to use it, it was always missing executable (even when I copied FCE files into dedicated tool it didn't work - files of dedicated tool and FCE were totally different back them, even checking game files was showing 0 errors...)

Iirc, tools and normal are absolutly the same files. Dj didnt update it untill a while ago, but that should be fixed. Im running a linux dedi atm so it should work. Tested with win dedi also.
Did you port forward ir are you using upnp?

My friend also wants to get FCE running on his 2nd linux pc. It didn't work before but he'll try every now and then. I could join 2 times but he couldn't. I'm a total pc noob and he doesn't know a lot of English so I had to ask here.

There should be no issue with running the dedicated server and joining it as well. I do that all the time for local testing. If he still has problems let us know the exact error he's getting.
