Multiplayer not working
I bought this game today for my friend and I to play togther. We can't get a server to run. In fact I can't see any public server that we could join either.

We both have UPnP enabled. neither could start.
We both tried forwarding port 27012 with both UNP and TNP. Neither of us could get it to work.
I've dug through the archives of steam, and nothing suggested seems to help.

How can we play this together? Preferably withour own server.

Could you elaborate? What is the error? When do you get it? Did you already try rebooting your router? That's generally the cause of UPnP failing assuming you have a UPnP compatible router.

Port forwarding definitely works however so either you didn't set it up properly or you have some other software blocking the data. Did you add an exception to Windows to allow traffic on the port? Have you tried a port tester after opening the game to multiplayer with port forwarding active?

When either of us open the multiplayer screen after finishing the tutorial there is a "host game" button. When we hit that it says under the box with the ip address: "uPnP failed. You will need to manually forward [[27012 fortresscraft evolved server]] or enabled uPnP". Both of which we tried. I also tried setting up the dedicated server, but it failed due do a BAT error. That didn't clear after.

We've both tried restarting our routers. Twice.

Once we've hit the "host game" button there is no way to disconnect or close the server. We have to restart the game to try again.

I also tried setting up the dedicated server, but it failed due do a BAT error. That didn't clear after restarting my computer, or redownloading the server package.

Just tried the dedicated server to show how easy it was, but I probably had the same BAT error you had. However, did you download the server tools from Steam -> Library -> Tools ? Those works better for me.

I tried downloading it from there too. then checked it's file integrity. I get the error "missing Dedicated Server/dedicated server.bat"
I am thinik that issue might be easier to fix, but I've put too much time into this for it to be worth it to me now. I am giving up and getting a refund.

Hrm. Ive never had that much problems. Using the none tool dedicated server causes all sorts of issues cause youre game runs the same files and that may cause colisions. The bat can be copied over with no priblems as theres just a one liner in it. The ingame multiplayer is heavely unrecommended due to the limitatiins you mentioned and the lack of permissions controlle.

What is the BAT error? You weren't trying to run it alongside the game were you? You can only do that if you copy it to a different directory or use the 32 bit copy of the game to play in. It won't let you run the game twice (server+client) from the same copy.

I've never had issues with the included dedicated server BAT file for hosting though. I still do all my server mod testing by running that and joining as a client on the 32 bit copy. The version that's available through the Steam tools is definitely a better choice though.

as long as you get an IP adress it worked
(UPNP fails because if you route it manuel it cant create a rule, and if it created a rule with UPNP it doesn't clear it after quit so the time after it will show it every time because the rule already exist)
if you not get an IP adress then it doesn't work (something with Socket Error instead)

The IP getting service was shutdown last or so month, so it WILL fail when the game tries to get the public Host ip. its not hotfixable as dj atm is not cepable of programming efficiently.

I have the same problem kinda... i have used the whatsmyip.com website and checked my router. what happens to me is when i load the game i press exscape and host game it goes through says it punched through.... but when my friend puts into the ip address i get off whatsmyip it doesnt allow him to connect... we tried with him hosting and got the same issue.

UPnP could have forwarded the port but if you have a firewall blocking tracking others still won't be able to connect. Make sure you have an exception set for the port/application in any firewall you are running (including Windows Firewall).

I cleared it in my firewall, can't speak for my friend. We did both try it with ONLY uPnP enabled, then with uPnP disabled but the ports manually forwarded.

Thanks for all your responses guys.

You have to check both that UPNP is turned on in your router as well as your Windows Firewall has allowed the game to access both private and domain/public. One person launches and starts a game, once that person has launched a local game he hits ESC and goes into the multiplayer options and enables multiplayer. He then googles "whats my ip" and google will tell the public IP. The other person enters the game and types that IP into the connect to game box.

Also try flipping it so that the other person tries hosting (both people take turns trying to host). I think I wasnt able to get them to see my game but then when they hosted I was able to see their game instead.

We did try all of that, SmalTalk. Thanks. I've since returned the game. best of luck to others who get the same problem.

Tired hosting this a year ago and failed.
Have since got a new Router and Static IP

Stationeers adds itself to upnp list and works flawlessly.
So I am thinking its not the router, isp, upnp.

Fortress Craft...... nope... still nothing...

Disable firewall.
Enable DMZ
Port forward
Restart router over and over

Nothing........

Anyone want to tell me its not Fortress Craft or point me in another direction ?
