trencher mk1 vs mk2?
So, we were finally able to build one, and aside from looking much prettier, it doesn't seem to be an actual improvement. Is there one?

The mouse-over stats are identical, it doesn't seem to pull ore out any faster, both are 100% efficent, both have high internal storage, help file on it isn't showing much of an improvement. It's pretty, though. Is it just prettier? I'll probably change most out due to it looking fancier, but is there a reason (beyond looks)?

(It also can't bite into hard rock nor magacite)

The 100% efficient means that it is "touching" 9 squares of ore so it is working as fast as possible.

MK1 actually destroys 95% of the tier 4 ore it harvests !!! (5% efficiency on t4 ores).
MK2 has 20 or 25% efficiency on T4 ores. HUUUGE improvement.

They both have different efficiency on different tiers of ore. I don't remember the exacts stats but it's in the wiki. Google it.

( MK3 has 100% efficiency on all )

Improving trencher quality is top priority.

The efficiency listed in the window is the number of ore blocks the trencher head is touching. The ore extraction efficiency isn't listed, and that is the functional difference between the three trenchers. On the T4 ores, MK1 is 5%, MK2 is 25%, MK3 is 100%. The T1/2/3 ores have a bonus in addition to these (up to 100%), but I forget what it is off the top of my head.

Edit: sniped by Jonathan once again!

Can't help but feel like "I won".

Wow, that's significant - ore destruction!!
Prioritizing upgrades now. Thanks!

While we're at it, the first type of extactor that you have been using since the beginning have low efficiency as well..

And they are equal on all ore types. (well, Tier1-2-3... since they can't harvest T4 at all !)

Extractors have 10% efficiency.
20% with a steel head.
50% with an organic head.
100% with a plasma head.

Also, the top-tier motor for the extractor makes it go about as fast as a Trencher working at full efficiency.

But Trenchers need no "head".

So yeah.... Trenchers can be quite awesome if used properly. Even on lower tier ores.

From the wiki, about Trencher drills :

The MK1 trencher drill is the first multiple-use drill that is capable of mining T4 ores. It has a 5% efficiency when mining T4 ores. It also has an 80% efficiency when mining T1 ores, 67.5% when mining T2 and 55% when mining T3.

The MK2 trencher drill further increases the efficiency of the trencher. It gives a 25% efficiency when mining T4 ores. It is 100% efficient when mining T1 ores, making it a unlimited durability Plasma Imbued Cutter Head. It has an 87.5 efficiency rating when mining T2 and 80% on T3

The MK3 trencher drill increases the efficiency of the drill to 100%. At 810 ores per a minute this drill is only 20% slower at the same efficiency than a ore extractor with a Plasma Imbued Cutter Head however it requires no additional items added to it after creation besides power to function.

AAAAAND, also, to be abusivly clear :

T1 : Coal, Iron, Lithium, Copper
T2 : Gold, Nickel, Platinium
T3 : Crystals, Biomass
T4 : Chromium, Molybeum
