"Septerra Core Fatal Panic" error

My game consitently crashes any time the magma boss on shell 7 uses a move which generates a halo of violet light, with the message "Septerra Core Fatal Panic: v.1.02 Panic in Level O718 ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) @ 0x00421809 Reading 0x08B7FE50
Septerra Core will exit now."

I would appreciate any advice if anybody else has dealt with this issue. I'd appreciate a patch even more. Anybody?

I remember as a kid while playing this game, the same thing would happen to me and I had to literally keep doing it until I was able to beat the boss without him using the attack, this took me forever as I didn't understand the use of magic and that using water spells would drastically increase the speed at which you could kill him.

This time however I only got the bug when I lost to the magma boss, so instead of it taking me to the start screen when I died, it'd exit to the desktop, weird.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem? Im stuck here as well no matter what i do the boss does this skill almost immediately and the game crashes on me.

Edit: I actually found something that worked o-o.

This is basicly an exe file that ran immediatly with steam's Septerra Core. I just put it in the steam folder change the combatibility/disable theme/desktop composition. Changed it to run as admin. and i just use this file to play the game. The Sonic lava boss did its purple nova skill and the game didnt crash at all.

It's a glitch in 1.02, either use 1.0 (the best version) or update to 1.04

Thanks to nastroma1, loading from your file appears to fix the issue. How would I patch my Steam copy to just boot from 1.04?

no idea i just throw the file in the folder and send it as an icon on my desktop and play it with that. So far its worked just fine ive already got lobo's ship and ive noticed some of the short text also doesnt zoom through but there still others that will.
