Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator Patch 1.04
the steam version is 1.02
you can download 1.04
http://games.softpedia.com/progDownload/Septerra-Core-Legacy-of-the-Creator-Patch-Download-129757.html

click on "Softpedia Secure Download (US) [EXE]"

and you will download Septerra104.exe
witch can serve as you're own shortcut and share the save files with the steam version.
This however does not mean that the steam version is 1.04, it still stays at 1.02.

Edit:
The GOG version also fixes the dialogue skipping and is better

You could rename Steam's exe to septerra102.exe and Septerra104.exe to Septerra.exe, thus "updating" steam's version to 1.04:yellowwizard:

Incidently, the 1.0 version works fine in all versions of Windows, and has some really fun glitches including one that amounts to a new game + mode.

Why the Steam version is not the newest. This is putting me away from buying :(

There could be some stability issues under certain circumstances, and these errors doesn't occur with 1.02.

it shouldn't be a hindrance in buying thou as the patch is just less than 1mb

But the whole game including CGI animations and sounds is just ~600MB, judging from the GOG version. Size is not all :)
1MB of executable code can make all the difference.

I think the point he was trying to make is that the patch download isn't a big deal, and having the game on Steam is still better than GOG.

I don't know about you guys, but windowed mode is a must for me with older games like these. The steam version uses 1.02 and windowed mode does not work properly while the GOG version is 1.04 and has windowed mode support via a fanmade patch. That's the only reason I went with with GOG version :(

It's nice that Topware ported this to Steam, but it would be nicer if they hadn't done such a half-assed job of it.

Edit: I emailed Topware and got a response saying this:

"The version 1.02 is stabile, but the 1.04 has some crashes. 1.04 is not an official version and it was never approved by us. That´s why we do not use 1.04. We are currently investigating how we can improve the current version."

Well hopefully they'll release a version that fixes the problems the game has on the newer OS's and send the update through steam for us.

They have not made any modifications to it since 2000, Valkyrie Studios is dead. TopWare just owns the license and they simply brought it to Steam without any extra patching. Unless the fans make a patch you are out of luck.
