How to get the videos/movies/cinematics working

uninstal quicktime

and instal quicktime 6 or lower
http://www.oldversion.com/windows/quicktime-6-0-0

for some reason the video files do not work for quicktime 7

Changing the compatibility of septtera.exe to Windows XP also helps.

but you have to take into account that Valkyrie Studios is out of business for a long time and they couldn't optimise the game. Plus Topware the publisher got the game on steam.

ok i guessed, well works only for windows 7 this way. i have windows 8 and i get the purple bug when i arrive in game menu.

I installed the QuickTime from Septerra Core's folder. Once I open it, there's no preference options. I already had QuickTime on my PC, so maybe it changed nothing. Do I have to unistall it?

EDIT: Oh, bummer! Nevermind, nevermind! I'm just stupid and finally found it, haha.

EDIT2: Crap... I'm using Windows 7, 64bit and it still didn't work for me...

It also worked for me and I have Win 7 64 bit.

Win8 64bit, same purple double menu here after trying the Quicktime fix posted here. And I've also tried every solution on the GoG forums but to no avail.
Help would be appreciated...:(

This worked for me! Thank you! Just in case some people get confused you don't run Quicktime in the compatibility mode, just the game. =)

OK guys, i got it to work on Win8 64bit here after reading through the manual (dugh!):
All you need to do is uninstall the current version of Quicktime you have installed and download/install QT4 from here:
http://www.oldapps.com/quicktime_player.php?old_quicktime=14#download-section

Also, don't forget the compatibility mode for Septerra EXE. Cinematics work and no purple screen! Hope it works for you too.

Edit: Well, apparently it works even without setting the XP compatibility mode and admin rights.

OMG OMG OMG MAN YOU ARE A GOD !!! Thanks man, i can finally play this game on windows 8.... so the game had that problems because needed a very very old version of quick time ?

This worked perfectly for me on Windows 8 64-bit. No need for Compatibility Mode or anything. Just uninstall your current version of QuickTime (if you had that trash installed to begin with) and install version 4.0 from the link provided.

The original version of the game came with quicktime 4, but I had the option to upgrade up to 6 and the videos would still work. That is why I recomended 6. Glad the rest solved the problem.

Finally, I do not own the steam verison of Septeria Core but I have a disk copy and could never get the cinimatics to work., THANK YOU!!!!
