Windows 10 working fix
So spent a few days poking around and got this game working on 2 computers both running windows 10. The first problem I ran into was the video not playing at all + audio skipping. The first thing I did was upgrade to patch 1.04. This fixed all the audio problems I seemed to have. Next I uninstalled quick time and then reinstalled the QT4 included with the game. This ended up being a bust but when I did this both computers I tried this on ended up with a 4x4 grid problem with purple screens in the top showing the game and the broken video in the bottom. To fix this and get the video playing I downloaded QT6 (http://steamcommunity.com/app/253940/discussions/0/846965882685169254/). This ended up fixing that problem as well. Once 1.04 + QT6 is installed make sure the launcher is set to windows xp SP2 and also run as admin. This fixed both the problem on both pc's I tried to run the game on. Im sure this has already been posted already but hopefully this helps someone.

-Update-
Ran into another problem once I started playing and was around 3-4 hours in. I wasnt getting dialogue skipping but more of a granny digital sound every 4-5 seconds while people where talking (dont know if audio sag is a term but thats what it sounds like). I played with the settings in QT6.0 and finally found the fix. If you go to "Edit > preferences > QT Preferences" then click the drop down box to audio out make sure these settings are checked:

device for playback = DirectSound
Rate = 22.050 kHz
Size = 8 bit
Use = Mono

Next click on the options button below and select use default DirectSound format. Also my Fifo size in millsecs is 120 by default (not sure if that makes a difference). After that the audio sag seemed to be fixed.

This worked for me 100%, from a post on GoG. Figured I'd share here too:

Hello,

I found a solution for the game to run on Windows 10. Please make this post sticky.

After installing the game, you need to remove all .avi files from the installation dir as well as "ddraw.dll" and "QuickTime.qts".

Download the following file. It contains the movies and the QT fix: mega.nz/#!tB80ULaS!W0DyyPzWa3lS7in_ko7L3lgckNcY0MMLf-VXXxRIM-I

Replace the .DB files in the installation dir with the ones from my archive.

Place the files inside the archive "QT4.zip" into your C:\Windows\SysWOW64

You will find "QT4.zip" in my uploaded archive.

Conclusion: Videos work and there is no stuttering. It's like back in '99 when the game was released.

Hopefully! I really enjoyed this game and hated that the movies didn't work. Fortunately I started looking into it soon, but I had to start over to see the proper video scenes. So necessary for story immersion!

I tried to get the fix from the link, but the file(s) no longer exist. I've never played this game all the way through (game crashed when using a ton of assists). But I'm pretty sure that some of the movies/videos are detriment to the game's story. And I'd really hate to have to uninstall it.

Yeah unfortunately they are. Even back when this first released some of the videos late game were unfortunately buggy to the point of not always playing properly. I do recall having some frustration with that and a notable experience learning to make more save games since I had to backtrack several hours of game play at one point due to that problem.

Up side it taught me to save more which is useful for all sorts of games. :HappyMask:

Well, with ANY RPG, it's recommended that you save often. Years ago, a friend of mine played one of the Final Fantasy games and had one of those 16 slot Playstation memory cards JUST for that game! And he had it completely full! So, saving often should become a habit. But I keep forgetting about it myself.

The AVi files replaced the .DB video files when you use the unofficial Patch.

This was fixed by steam 1+ years ago so you don't need the fix anymore on the other hand GoGs version is still using that stupid unofficial Patch with the AVI and DDraw files

That still doesn't tell me how to fix the game so I can watch the videos!

I was just saying that the fix they posted does not even matter anymore since it was fixed and the "ddraw.dll" and "QuickTime.qts" files are not even added to the main game folder anymore.

This game starts with no problems and videos run for me on windows 10

There should not be a problem but the game is old so ultra wide screen and more then 1 monitor does give some problems

If Videos are not playing that just means you do not have the QuickTime files installed and you can find the QuickTimeInstaller.bat File under "steamapps\common\Septerra Core\qt" just make sure to run it as Admin
