I can't always do that though and hope they fix this issue soon.
I've carried that sort of process over from 2020.
I always start up the sim and configure / load the flight before going into vr. I only switch from desktop to vr once I'm on the tarmac.
It's probably helped me because I also have a motion rig and several other devices like a haptic feedback unit for my seat which doesn't like 'going live' in 2020 until after you've loaded into the flight. Also loading third party tools for AI traffic injection etc. that need to be started after you're in the flight.
All of those are easier to do on the desktop, with all the flipping between applications etc., which has sort of forced me to follow that process.
