Is flight controllers must have with VR?
I have the oculus 3 and I wonder how the game is if you only run it with the headset and nothing else than the vr set hand controllers or the mouse and keyboard.

How does this game play in VR? I can imagine one would like to have rudder pedals etc. But is it doable with just the vr set and mouse/keyboard in worst case?

I use a joystick (MS Sidewinder ForceFeeback 2. FFB doesn't work, but I prefer it to a spring-loaded stick. I recently picked up some Logitech rudder pedals.

I think VR controllers would be tough for flying. I'd try the mouse as a yoke first. Taxing some planes without toe brakes is tough. I'm guessing there are enough assists to make that workable. Keys can control throttle, gear, flaps, and other stuff.

At the bare minimum, I use an Xbox controller with mouse and keyboard. It's very playable, As far as, "How does this game play in VR?"...that's a big old fat, "it depends". Be very prepared to have to do some work to get it optimized. If you can get it to run well, there is NOTHING like it!! NOTHING!

I use exclusively just the headset and touch controllers. So no extra input devices. In VR it works ok. You can grab the yoke, and interact with all of the controls in the cockpit with just the touch controllers. Some aircraft aren't fully supported, but they usually pop up a message stating that. Typically that means you just can't grab the yoke. But I've so far flown the cessna 172, the C208 grand caravan, and the DC-3 and all work well with VR. The hot air balloon also works with VR and touch controllers.

There are some bugs, however. You can't interact with the pop up window EFB. It's also very hit or miss if you can get the top menu to pop up (where you can change camer views, time and weather and other things).

There is a bug if you go into the menu, when you come back to the cockpit, you can't grab the yoke anymore. Fix is to exit VR mode (ctrl+tab is default), then re-enable it. THen you can grab yoke again.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried flying with the vr and the controllers now. I have a lot of optimizing to do. That said. The default settings seemed to be that the joke is controlled with the sticks on the controller, also the rudders. I was not able to grab the joke in the cockpit.

Also when landing I realized I had no idea how to brake other than using the parking brake. I did survive though.

I also wonder. How do people use things like the keyboard and mouse, or other devices while in VR, as one cannot see the equipment (having the headset on)?

The critical stuff I have mapped to buttons on my joystick. I have my headset adjusted so its tight at the bottom - enough of a gap that I can peek out and see the keyboard or my beer. The mouse isn't an issue, as it doesn't wander off - I know where it is.

You seem to know what the most important things are hehe.

I thought it would be more practical in vr to have a good functioning ”hand” in the cockpit, since the cockpit should have all buttons needed, than using keyboard etc. Yoke and the buttons on it i totally get, as well as rudder pedals. However would wish then that i could have used my hand without a controller to push and pull other things in the cockpit. Like quest 3 allows me to do in its menus.

After trying to use the controllers however, adjusting things like flaps is nearly imposible. I yerk between 35 and 0-5 degrees randomly…

I have flaps on buttons on the top of the joystick - elevator trim is the POV switch up/down. I don't mess with radios and avionics yet - I think the mouse/controller will be OK for those.
Absolutely not. The stick on Oculus controller works really good. I can fly F-18 through a canyon with just the Quest stick. Thats how accurate it is.

Even though I have fulll HOTAS setup, I frequently use Quest controllers (with xbox controller) for relaxed laid back casual flying.
