Pimax Crystal Light Does Not Seem to Work with MSFS24 on Steam
Where to start? In no particular order, when the Crystal Light actually starts and MSFS24 is in VR mode, my keyboard and mouse disappear. I can set the pilots viewpoint. Sometimes SteamVR crashes and has an unrecoverable error which results in it blocking the headset. Sometimes MSFS24 will not go into VR mode. Often a ghost controller will "float" off on the left side of the viewing area. The list goes on. Does anybody know how to set up a Crystal Light?

I know, for sure . I saw that review and that is one of the reasons why I got the Crystal Light. I have heard from others that it works fine on Steam, so something weird is going on here. I am totally baffled. It worked fine on Eleven Table Tennis and another game, the Kayak one, but not of MSFS24. I will post if I can solve this.

Might be a conflict of some kind. Hmmmm ....
I recently got a Crystal Light, though unfortunately with dodgy lenses so waiting for them to respond to my support request and gone back to my Reverb G2 for now. It did run MSFS2024 fine when I tried it though.

Assuming you are using SteamVR to play (which your original post would seem to indicate) then I'd suggest the following:-

Make sure you are using the PimaxXR as the runtime by setting it as the default XR runtime to use in the PimaxPlay software. Start PimaxPlay so the headset is connected and then start MSFS2024 from Steam in normal desktop mode NOT via SteamVR if that's what you are doing. Once in the game switch to VR using CTRL+TAB.

Well, I tried your suggestion (which I like) but here's what happens

- PimaxPlay shows Pimax OpenXR Quadviews and Pimax Central Priority Rendering. Pimax Central is noted as "required to restart SteamVR" and can be selected or deselected. Pimax Open XR cannot be selected.
- I deselected Pimax Central and started MSFS24 in the normal manner.
- Once the game was running I pressed CTRL+TAB in the normal manner.
- MSFS24 shifted 20 VR mode, the "press to center" pilot's view popup popped up.
- They keyboard locked up and the view cannot be centered.
- The game froze
- I pressed the Windows key and went back to PimaxPlay and closed it
- MSFS24 continued to run but the background in the Main Menu is black.
- I closed MSFS24
- I closed Steam
- I went out to walk the dogs.

The dogs are significantly more cooperative than MSFS24 with Pimax in VR.

I am waiting on a support ticket with Pimax in case they have some insights, but it doesn't look good.

Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it.

As for as i'm concerned, I never had any problem using msfs 2024 with the pimax Crystal light (both with pimax openxr and with steamvr), nor switching from steamvr to pimax openxr. Are you trying to do it under the 'general' tab?
I can't find the " Pimax Central Priority Rendering" you're talking about. In which part of the pimaxclient do you find it?

I know ... on this forum it seems like everyone has it working. On the Pimax forum it is a different story. Several posters have described problems similar, or even exactly, like mine.

Here's the steps to the rendering options:

-- Start PimaxPlay
-- Click the Device Settings button in the middle of the panel
-- Click Ganes in the left side column of the Device Settings popout panel that just popped up.
-- Second settings option in the central column is Fixed Foveated Rendering. The options there are "Pimax OpenXR Quadviews" or Pimax Central Priority Rendering.
----- Touch the (!) icon for the Quadview option and see the explanation then touch the (!) icon for Central Priority. See what it says.
-- Attempt to select the OpenXR option.

Note that some of the other options may or may not be available, such as the choice of optimization. I do not know why sometimes that is selectable and some times not. It appears some choices might be turned on or off depending on other settings chosen.

That's all I have.
Unfortunately I can't compare to my settings currently as without the headset attached the options in PimaxPlay aren't displayed and until my replacement lenses arrive I'm leaving the G2 setup.

A couple of thoughts from what I can remember (and apologies in advance if my memory is fuzzy or these aren't helpful).

1. Are you changing the settings specific to the game or the generic settings. I don't remember 2024 being listed amongst the games it identified when I did mine so I know I did all of my changes under the generic setting. I'm assuming you're doing the same but maybe worth a try if that's not the case. I know when starting out that I set the resolution to 70%, had Quadviews on for the Fixed Foveated Rendering and was running the headset at 120Hz.

2. Are you on the very latest version of PimaxPlay and headset firmware? I'm guessing you will have already tried updating but just a thought in case.

3. Might also be worth checking graphics drivers or any other apps that might be having an impact. When I first tried running 2024 I was having constant CTD's, even with my Reverb G2 before the Crystal arrived. After much trial and error I was able to track it down to MSI Afterburner. I always had that running by default as I sometimes switch profiles to undervolt my graphics card on certain games. Even though I wasn't actually running the undervolted profile whist playing just having Afterburner monitoring my graphics card was enough to make 2024 throw a fit and CTD regularly. Making sure Afterburner isn't running whilst playing has resulted in virtually no CTD's since.

in the left side column, under the 'games tab' , there is the 'general' tab where you can select the openxr version.

and to be able to select "Pimax OpenXR Quadviews", you must select 90hz upscale as refresh rate ( device tab)

Well, let me see now --:

1. I have change settings for game specific, Nvidia, and Pimax. When I lowered the Nvidia settings to the point where the game was highly pixilated, the eventual freeze and crash was mildly delayed.

2. All the apps, firmware, and drivers are absolutely new and fresh. Steam and SteamVR are the latest, too. Some of that stuff is so fresh you can smell it.

3. For sure, graphics drivers could be the issue, but they are fully updated also.

I am about ready to give up.

Your post here was very helpful. I was able to make changes you mentioned and now MSFS24 no longer freezes or crashes. However, it stutters badly, but I am working on that now.

Thanks!!!!

Update: Gave up on the Pimax Crystal Light and switched to Quest 3. That was one of my more brilliant moves as I had the Quest 3 up and running within 15 minutes with great success.
took about that long to setup the PCL so I recorded it https://youtu.be/jUdHsMdm1Q4

With Opencomposite (openXR) or PimaxXR, the PCL works fine.
