Streaming vs Download Questions
Hi guys. I have a couple questions about Streaming vs download/installing data for MFS2024:

- Is it better performance wise to stream game data, or to download/install?

- How do I download game data? My "limitless" game folder is only 8gb in size, thought I needed 50gb?

- What is recommended size for rolling cache? I have it currently set to 30gb.

Thoughts and help appreciated :)

Download, literally everyone complained about the streaming ♥♥♥♥... the performance and stability will be way better if you download it, because you are not relying on their crap servers to stream the data to you, you have it all on your PC

You can't download yet, you stream everything now

SIM Update 3 will hopefully deliver this feature :steamsalty:

I recently downloaded all the content for the US and marketplace aircraft that I use. Performance has been more or less the same (that being fine).

In SU3 (currently in Beta) inside of the MSFS 2024 library there is an option to download the content you wish. It's a bit odd how they have it set up. You have to download it then click the install button yourself. No idea why they have it set up like that.

I personally have it set to 300GB.

I find the best results come when you use a combination. I have downloaded the aircraft I fly, and some of my most used add-ons, but I leave the aircraft i don't fly that much and the world streaming. This saves me a lot of drive space, while boosting performance dramatically.

300GB? Why that much is recommended for Rolling Cache? Could I get by with 100GB set aside for it? My laptop has 2 SSDs, should the Rolling Cache be on same SSD as game/simulator? Also, is it worth installing and playing SU3 Beta? Further thoughts and help appreciated :)

Hi again guys. I opted into the SU3 Beta, and am now able to download game data, and I have Rolling Cache set to 120GB. As far as what to download vs stream, what do you guys recommend installing? Help appreciated :)

That is just what I have mine set to. It might be overkill. My rolling cache is on another SSD. I'm in the SU3 Beta and it's been pretty peachy for me.

Thanks for the info! What do you recommend data to download/install vs data to stream? My internet is 1 gig with no data cap.

I downloaded and installed the region I fly in and aircraft I fly. I have the room for it. 500 up/down with no data cap.
streaming everything, even your aircraft, was a stupid idea, was bound to cause problems in the end, that has to be them making it easier for Xbox and their limited space.. update 3 lets you download stuff.
Performance and stability wise its not even a question.
Unless you are sitting next to Azure servers or your running it from Barracuda hard disk, the downloaded content will always give better and more stable performance.

If you visit the same places most of the time then you can get away with smaller size roiling cache.

The benefit of having higher rolling cache is that you can save larger part of the world you visit. If you have smaller cache it will fill up faster and overwrite over the previous data.
Which means your previous world data would have to be redownloaded when you visit that place again.

So the optimal size depends on the variety of world spots you visit that aren't part of per-installed scenario packs.

One solution is to use manual cache and manually allot some space for your most frequent places.

That's what I do. Since I play in VR I can't rely on streaming at all (any delay or hiccups in streaming data is brutal for VR experience). So if its a new place I fly over it once on flat screen to download the data in cache before going through it on VR.

That's what you can do. So like if you are visiting some pace after a long time and after flying in lots of other place, fly over it once just to load it up in cache before flying over it for experience or for any mission.

If you manage your flight patterns a bit you can have it 50GB cache and still have great experience.

Cache size depends on whether you fly around same area or not.

If you fly around same cities you can be fine with even as low as 8GB cache.

I suggest you check this topic, seems to be pretty detailed regarding cache
