Worth a buy?
Thinking about buying the Sim for playing Career Mode. Is it playable or still buggy after Sim Update 1? I am not a Hardcore Simmer, just a casual pilot, so some minor bugs won't bother me at all.

I would wait.

It still feels like an early access game to me and I'm not even a hardcore simmer.

IMO the career mode still needs a lot of work. Can it be played? Yes, for some people. I leveled to 150+ playing it before SU1. But I also was very picky about the airports I used.
If I were you, I would wait. MSFS 2024 is still far from mature. I wouldn't recommend it to you for career mode anyway. The AI dialogues, the AI voices are really terrible. The dialogues repeat themselves in an endless loop and the missions are relatively monotonous in the mass. In general, the simulator is extremely bugged. The servers are causing enormous problems and the updates take way too long. I would recommend that you wait at least another six months and prefer to use MSFS 2020.

This game is awfully expensive and Career mode is completely broken and absolutly unplayable for a vast amount of people. It's not just that there are a lot of bugs, it's that they are game breaking bugs. That being said, there are a lot of promised fixes rolling out in the upcoming SU2 update. As it is now, everything about this game is a not fun headache.

I'd suggest waiting until after the su2 update release. The beta for that should be out very soon, and the full release sometime this summer. And who knows, maybe you'll be able to catch it on a summer sale.

I'm playing it and I like it but I have to say that I'm doing it thanks to the gamepass, if I had to pay what they ask for on the sales page I would wait a bit.
Career mode has zero appeal for me. I don't understand why people put a priority on it.

Free flight works reasonably well, and suits a casual pilot. However, the entire game has quite a few bugs still, both large and small, and it's impossible to say whether you will be beset by them.

Are you made of money? Obviously, some people are: if so, give FS24 a whirl, if you don't mind some troubleshooting. Otherwise, wait on it.

Wait. Many career issues continue to spoil the fun.

While I answered your question above, I think the real answer is to avoid the inbuilt career mode entirely. Third party career addons such as Neofly are IMO simply better, and are likely to stay that way for the foreseeable future. And they work fine right now assuming you can get the game to run at all (some people do have trouble with that). If you have gamepass or sign up for a gamepass trial, you can get the game and find out at least if it will even run for you.
Without career mode working I wish I bought 2020 instead. Don't buy this.

Having flown both (I have gamepass), I much prefer 2024. Reasons include:
1) Electronic Flight Bag
2) Much better variety of aircraft of the sorts I like to fly in 2024 regular edition
3) Better visuals.
4) Streaming makes for a smaller footprint on the computer AND much smaller downloads during updates.

You of course can prioritize differently than I do and come to a completely rational opposite conclusion.

I will say that when this works it can be absolutely spectacular. I flew from Flagstaff to Ceder City yesterday. I started just before sunrise. The view of MT. Humphrey with the sunrise behind it was amazing. Likewise the grand canyon looked great. I was flying my trusty CJ4, which is a fine aircraft once you get used to the avionics.

I would say wait, but wait for what? If you're waiting for it to be fixed, you might be waiting forever. It's a mess. After many months, there's little improvement.

NO
Never buy a new video game the first year of release. It's industry standard practice now to release a alpha/beta build to get suckers to pay retail to be a beta tester. Paid influencers are your cheap advertising. Remember it's a video game and they are not exactly going to run out of copies, It's just code.

Now some games release actually finished like Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 for example, but MSFS 2024 needs to stay in the oven.
