40 kt cross wind on arrival, your decision?
Yesterday flew a cargo mission. I just started this cargo company a few days ago and just before the flight invested a bunch of money into repairing my first cargo C172. The flight was IFR over 150 nm, moderate conditions no skip and no sim rate change. Now on getting closer to my destination (a small airfield with 1100x12m runway) the weather became more and more harsh. Visibility about 2-3 nm, overcast base ~2000 AGL, but MORE THAN 40kt CROSS WIND! with gusts!

So what is your decision here?

Would it be for real I would rather not dare try to land. I would go to some other nearby airport with a bigger runway that is not exactly perpendicular to the wind direction. But ok in the sim I just took that risk. That was hell of a ride on final. Approach slightly faster than usual, slipping full into the wind ripping on the flightstick for corrections, that on short final wind direction suddenly changes from left to tail wind of still about 33 kt!
At this point in the real world I would definitely go around and approach from the other side, but I did change my mind on landing direction already once and got punished for that. So ok now landing with 30kt+ tail wind on a short runway - still better then with cross wind... Full flaps, cut throttle and see she is not going too far and too fast at last moment before touch down. But worked actually, touched down a bit late but before the middle of the runway and then tried to keep her on the runway on not to flip over being thrown around by the wind. Surprisal the landing was actually relatively smooth (luck).

Next problem, upon parking mission does not end, because the wind keeps turning the propeller despite engine is off. Mission log says "wait for the engine to stop" lol, it does not realize that the engine has stopped because the wind is turning the propeller! Ok restarted the engine, reparked it cross wind, now prop finally stopped and the mission ended. What a ride!

I wished there was a possibility to know wind conditions before starting a mission. EFB usually does not reveal weather information prior the flight and in most cases also not during the flight. This is a bit of a spoiler, in reality I would be much better informed about weather and wind conditions before the flight.

The EFB does have the winds. Bring up the EFB when deciding whether to take the mission. Next to the each airport is an i with a light blue circle around it (standing for information). Click that. It will then bring up more detailed info about the airport. Then go to the runway page and click on the assigned runway. It will show the headwind (or tailwind) and crosswind components.
I always try to land. I'm here for a good time, not a long time.
In real life, the situation is clear. But in the Sim I am happy to accept the challenge. So far I have always managed to land the airliner safely.
If you see a single 1 km x 12m rwy with trees in each side somewhere in east europe...
don't go there. It happend to me that after such a risky cross wind landing the mission failed because he thought I was outside the airport somehow while I was just a little on the right in the grass at the very end (but not over) the rwy.

Since then whenever I see a mission with a long but very thin single rwy I think twice to go there and if I inspect the windsock and see heavy cross wind instant skip. (*)

yea but those are always wrong

That hasn't been my experience but perhaps I am just fortunate.
When I looked at it, it was quite off. Also runway heading information seems not always correct. But I will check again if thats matching to the wind info in my pfd, perhaps they fixed it

I am glad that when I restarted my career (due to insurance bug wiping out my bankroll) I chose just not to get the Instrument Rating. It will limit what I can do but honestly medium cargo missions and above are usually too long (I don't use Sim Rate), I don't have a desire to do airliners, and prefer cargo over passengers

I think the runway heading is sometimes off from the runway number because the magnetic compass is always moving, it's even possible that it could flip within the next few years.

Runway numbers are based off magnetic. However, I have seen at least one instance that was so far off, that could not have been the explanation.
Ive seen a runway that was 27 and was indeed facing straight to the west, but in the EFB its runway heading was suggesting 305. Weird

Asobo microsoft clearly still manipulating the reviews on steam instead of fixing the mountain of bugs

How have you come to this bit of enlightenment. If they are manipulating the reviews, they are about as successful as they are fixing the numerous bugs.

Oh, and for what it is worth, I am now having cloud sync errors, which I have not experienced before this afternoon.

Yeah and that is the problem between stock ATC & others based on SimBrief and aircrafts where you can import METAR data also.
Good habits are fine things. I shall not land in a crosswind over the plane's rated tolerance. Nor will I land with a gusting tailwind, so as to avoid an unexpected stall that I didn't earn.

Nor shall I forget to yell "clear prop" at my dog if he is sitting too close to the monitor.

A hound is a horrible thing to waste.
