So no offline mode?
Can this game be played offline or does the streaming of assets require server connection?

you have a "rolling cache" which is configurable in size and stores recent visited areas, also "data" can be stored locally in your "community" folder as a workaround.

its geared to be fully playable via streaming but us "analogue" fliers will be catred for too, although all systems may not be in place yet.

okay, its good they have the option, I am just not in favor of supporting online only products.

I've seen nothing that suggests it will ever be playable offline and find it unlikely due to its nature, being online and streamed was its only creation point. I would like an offline mode, but definitely not expecting it.

The caching, is mainly to reduce streaming load in local areas, but by no means ever intended to be "offline" AFAIK.

but it can be. All it means is you'll have a larger disk install just as in 2020.

it'll be just as offline as 2020.

Try disconnecting from the internet before you load the game. Not saying it can or cannot, just curious what happens.

I have over a terabyte free on nvram. We should have the ability to store aircraft and scenery if we so chose. I would permanently store some small areas. I don't need petabytes because I will not be flying over every inch of planet Earth. I've seen elsewhere that MS is forcing all streaming due to fear of pirating. If so, they are making their paying customers suffer for just a relative handful of pirates. And in so doing, losing sales and garnering contempt from their customers. Just makes no sense any way you look at it. Maintain online if absolutely needed, but allow local permanent storage of aircraft and scenery of your selected areas.

It's 2024, nearly 2025. still baffles me that people don't understand we live in an Online catered world. especially with games like this, Offline can't be done. due to it's nature, otherwise you'd need over 2 petabytes of storage which no consumer hardware allows for. and internet should be fast enough for the majority of people nowadays

Its maybe 2024 but the western world has gone backwards . MSFS should at least give players a choice . offline mode .

Nah. I can play previous versions and other flightsims just fine without 2PB of storage. They are still playable without the satellite images.

No offline content everything is streamed. Which is a godsend for those like me who are casual flyers who just want to pick up and fly for a few hours on occasion. I have a 3MB/sec connection and no problems so far with the Gamepass version.

I play on medium because my graphics card isn't great but it still looks great. The only thing that looks rubbish is the reflection in the canopy assuming that is what it is - all pixellated and blurred artifacts which look strange. I will have to look at the setting for those.

Other than that it looks like a great game.

That's why it's only 50GB. Most of the assets will be downloaded or from the local cache. I think it's better than downloading massive data in 2020. I have a 1.5GB connection so downloading is not an issue for me.

It was only 12GB initial download for me, but it downloads extra stuff after loading. Takes me maybe a minute to get into the game which is ok I think. Then maybe a minute downloading location data once you choose a flight. On lowly 3MB/sec. No issues yesterday, I hear there are some today though.

I tried disconnecting my internet and it would not let me into the game. There is the provision to set one (and only one) of your devices to allow offline play of games. I don't know if that would have worked in this case or not.

I can confirm if you lose your internet during a flight, it'll first show a warning in game that its trying to re-connect then like 30 seconds later will go to a retrying connection screen like the queue screen looked.

If it can't connect in a couple of mins(?) it aborts the flight / mission entirely, you can't hold on that screen or get back to where you were.

Hope they change this in future :/
