Anyone tried the heli training with controller?
It's impossible to control everything at the same time, especially the cyclic. I'm literaly moving the stick ½mm and it would be too much.

I am not having much luck. I am looking at VKB or x56 to try and get into flying them

Haven't tried it yet in fs2024, but if it's your first time trying a heli, and you're on full realism... yes, it really is that hard.

I had a real-life heli pilot buddy who used to say that flying a helicopter is like trying to balance two balls on one another. Seems about right.

Having said that, maybe the sensitivity is too high on your controller?

The controls are, in general, insanely sensitive. I haven't tried to tweak them as I didn't find enough in this sim to keep me in it(I have so much more in 2020), but unless the sensitivity is cranked all the way up by default, it's a horrendous bug.

I have all the assist on that I can. But it is during the training and part of the training is to learn how to counteract the torque and drift and what not. Don't know If it'll be easier outside of the training then maybe.
But it's kinda hard to get past that point if the assists would turn off during training. Then I wont be able to get that license.

Maybe I'll have to check the sensitivity of my controller, but you would think that those settings should be OK from the get go.

I play with some assists on the heli and it works fine, just be gentle

Can't be more gentle than moving the stick on my controller ½mm.

Yeah, it's tough. Overcorrecting is the biggest problem. Most times, if you're not crashing, all you have to do is think about correcting and that's enough.

If 1/2 mm, which is roughly the thickness of a human hair, is too much you probably have issues with your controller. Yes, even if you don't have problems with any other game.

I use an X-56 and there's a tiny bit of play between when you start putting pressure to move and when it actually hits the spring to move. It's roughly 1/2 a CENTImeter at the base and it works just fine for me.

I have a hotas and it's impossible as well, the cyclic is broken, this is not how an helicopter behaves, no one would fly these.

Fortunately, Bell 407 controllability remains acceptable as it was in MSFS 2020

Try editing the curve of the corresponding axis and add some expo - so the reactions around the center aren't that severe anymore. It should help at least a little.

When you have the "heli assistant systems" on (its three), than these one or two tutorials are the only ones where you have to fight against the torque (and yeah...this was hard af). However everything else works super smooth (with assistance).

Just adjust the sensitivity, and don't care about the slider that says "sensitivity", adjust the one that says "extremity deadzone", and turn it down a ♥♥♥♥ load until it feels good.
hopsenrobsen Nov 24, 2024 @ 9:47am
"adjust the one that says "extremity deadzone", and turn it down" DONT DO THAT!

This way you limit the range of your control-output. It's like you could move the joystick only half the way of whats normal. In dynamic situations you want the full range, reducing the range of outputs, also drastically reduces the authority on this axis. Good luck in dynamic situations...
Thorstorm Nov 24, 2024 @ 10:10am
The problem is during their training they let go of the cyclic and the trim is all over the place, it's a stupid decision, you have one second to adjust the trim so you're not thrown back or to the left.

I guess for the price we paid, everyone expected a much more polished product. Posting bugs around here you get send to the according forum and you are expected to spend your time on filling out bug-reports. That was a thing paid beta-testers did in the old days. I am angry but love the simulator at the same time. That's why Microsoft and other companies get away with strategies like that. On release-day they said they expected around 200 000 users - so all the hell broke lose when millions of us tried to play the game. So pathetic...
