To developers: can we have local storage option?
I would gladly dedicate a terabyte or two to this game if we could have the option to download the data. Primarily the planes, that's so stupid in my opinion that not even the planes are stored locally. You should not have to wait for the airplane's textures to load in from the freaking internet, I mean WTF? I have 2.5gb internet so I've been playing the game and enjoying it just fine, but when the servers intermittently stop working I'm stuck with a plane that's missing its interior, I mean come on guys, let me store those on my terabytes of free space.

Scenery? That's understandable. Way too much data to reasonably store locally, but an option to download and save the planes would be very nice. Like a content manager similar to 2020 that lets us download this data.

Fully agree... I prefer to have +100Gb on my hard drive but a game which is working. This morning game is launching well (servers not overloaded) but no engine sounds. WTF Asobo !!!

yes please, i'd rather download 200GB of textures once rather than keep "streaming" them
i extra bought a dedicated 2TB NVME for this game...i'd love to use it. after the horrid control mapping issues for external hardware is solved and its playable to begin with ofc.

Make it like FS2020 data wise. Although I now the 100 GBytes updates every month is an annouance so maybe find out which data are often changeing and which are more persistent to make the best solution out of both worlds.

I've got an 8 TB drive now, only for use in simming. It wasn't even that expensive. I'd prefer to load as much as I can and not stream much.

Having that as a mere option seems like it would permit everybody to have what they need and can handle.

You can increase your rolling cache size which now is also used for Airplane data in addition to terrain data.

Written like the greedy executive that greenlit this: If people are willing to fork out $200 for a simulator they can pay $200 for another hard drive to play it on.

I mean that is a disgusting sentiment in itself, but given this is a simulator it's also not that crazy either. It's certainly more reasonable than expecting people to have an unlimited fiber line to constantly download things. A SSD can be bought, a new cable put into the ground is magnitudes harder.

I put my cache in a custom location where size wasn't an issue and set it to 100Gb. Made zero difference. I still haven't flown one plane yet, just hangs on start flight. I take an eternity just to rez in the location i want to fly from.

Yeah, same here. Changed the cache options and just greatly disappointed there's no download capability of desired terrains, at all. Debating on refunding.

yeah, won't make a difference on the first load, but in theory anyways once a plane is downloaded it shouldn't need to be streamed in again if the rolling cache is large enough.

Your case seems more like a bug than an issue per say with rolling cache / etc. Might be worth it to clear out everything in your case and try again. With all the server issues going on it wouldn't surprise me if people can end up with corrupted downloads.

I did notice that yup, I flew the PC12 on the first day and when I went to load it up on day 2 it loaded immediately with no streaming. Figured that was what it's doing. The only issue I see with the rolling cache is if you don't set it large enough I don't know if the sim will overwrite planes with scenery data when it gets full or prioritize keeping the plane data.
Works fine with Stalker 2 and 160gigs, no need to stream if you have a proper SSD.

It's annoying that people like us exist meanwhile Asobo thought the majority of MSFS users would be upset if it took over 150GB and built the sim around that mentality. I think people's eyes are open now and they won't question large downloads again when this is the alternative, not being able to play because every little thing relies on their server.

Honestly I just remembered something as well, this is likely all because the sim has to fit on an Xbox drive and people won't install it on their Xbox if they need to uninstall a bunch of other games to fit it.

I doubt it. There has to be some financial and strategic reasons they are going for Cloud gaming. The entire game development is around Cloud gaming.

Please forgive me for not being able to provide more detail currently, but please know that we hear the community loud and clear about the functionality of being able to download aircraft and other packages.

Whilst not currently in the launch build, we've given this feedback to the development team!

Thanks
