I mean, forgetting your first name for one second, yes it would be nice but it is never going to happen, I mean to see moving trains would be nice when flying would look good, but the effect that would have on FPS? Even if it didn't, from pilots perspective who cares if the train is operated by a person or AI, likewise if driving a train, AI aircraft would be fine.
But like I say, why stop there cows in fields, Truck Simulator, Arma 3 in war zones, the list goes on
Unless the engine was designed from the ground up to be modular, allowing it to switch between flight and train-specific calculations dynamically, merging the two would be inefficient and would compromise realism for both experiences
I can see with the jump in fidelity with no seeming loss in performance being a big indicator of things to come.
Even 2020 had drivable cars, I can envision trains as theyd be "easier" in some ways as they follow a defined path. (obviously theres alot more to them than just that)
I dont hold with the "this game is X and cant be for Y" trope and its been shown to be false by modders countless times.
Id buy a train mod.
I agree that there's no technical reason why they couldn't do what your saying, given the computing power available today with cloud computing and streaming data. The problem would be the market. Such a simulator would cost significantly more to develop, since your effectively making multiple games in one, and I don't know there are enough people out there that would buy into it to make it worth while.
I would support it completely. My dream is to create a "logistics world simulator" that combines civilian flight sim, truck sim, car sim, boat sim, farm sim, rail sim, and factory sim into a single cohesive production and transportation simulation. With things like Air Goons recent "Under the Northern Star" campaign, where they combined elements of MSFS, DCS, Arma 3, Command:MO, and Euro Truck Simulator into a single online WWIII wargame scenario, complete with back-end logistical missions, I think the time might be coming when we do see a game like this get developed.
I heard somewhere that MS shut down MSTS for "safety" because some fool in my hometown got drunk and stole an idling locomotive from the railyard and crashed it. The (local) news claimed that he learned how to operate it from playing a game called Train Simulator from Microsoft and authorities were investigating it. I don't think I've ever seen anything to corroborate that, but I remember talk about MSTS2 suddenly stopped shortly after that incident.
And the national media began to blame Microsoft Flight Simulator for teaching the people who hijacked a couple of planes and yeeted them into the World Trade Center. There's at least 4 Microsoft flight sim games that were developed after 9/11
And 'Doom' was blamed for influencing Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold for shooting up their high school. There were 2 additional Doom games developed as reboots
And Grand Theft Auto is regularly blamed for crime sprees, typically when committed by minors. GTA 5 broke several records and received hundreds of accolades while GTA 6 is one of the most anticipated video games of all time.
Nothing new.
