Install WINE, log out of Steam, install the Windows version of Steam under WINE, log into the Windows version of Steam, purchase and download Ikaruga.

Only complication in this situation is that you'll have to switch back and forth between two different installations of Steam to access your entire library.

And have a very good chance that it won't work. Wine is shoddy as hell for unpopular titles.

Considering the minimum requirements for the game are Win XP and Intel HD Intergrated Graphics, I get the feeling there's a good chance it'll run.

If OpenGL, then perhaps, but if Direct3D, then maybe not.

And there's no telling what other windows calls it makes that are unrelated rendering. Half my issues seem to arise from outside of the render stack.

Minimal configuration won't indicate anything for that matter.
Wine is indeed improving and is just as important for Linux ecosystem as is Steam on Linux, but it is indeed still pretty not user friendly.

I do feel that things are going to change in the near future with the merging of CSMT with main Wine code, and frontend projects such as vineyard and PlayOnLinux. But, we MUST support native ports first. They are the projects that help developping Linux and graphic drivers further.

So if you don't want me to pick up a used copy of Ikaruga for my Nintendo GameCube instead of giving you some more (well deserved) money, port this to Linux.

I'd definitely buy Ikaruga if there was a native version for Linux.
I think it makes great sense to have one since it will let the game be played on the upcoming Steam console.
