A honest review of this game.
I have played the hunter for more than 3 years both as a free game and as a paid member. http://www.thehunter.com/#profile/deuchmaster/ is my profile page for my member account first hunt was on 2013-07-15. When I first started playing the hunter it only had just added Redfeather Falls to the game, the animals where darty and hard to find. Coming with in 100m of anything caused it to bolt and run. Still I hunted mule deer and found my self getting better, even bagging a few good trophies 200+ scores. After the introduction of Hemmeldal I finally purchased a membership, I got the Pathfinder membership(Now comes with a free deployable hunting tower that can fit up to 2 people) for 31.99 it came with a shotgun, .357/.44 revolver, a compound bow, a rifle scope, a handgun scope, a full set of clothes(hat, jacket, pants) a backpack, a tent and a turkey box caller. and 6 months of membership. If you add the cost of items alone it is 4295 em or about 40 dollars plus the 18 dollars for a 6 month membership you save roughly 30 dollars. After I got my membership I went on to hunt with my started rifle, bow and shotgun but found that I prefered bow hunting and rifle hunting. So I bought 5000em and picked up some more gear. I got myself both the softgrip 9.3x62 and 8x57 anschutz rifles and crazy caller bundle. Amazing power in both rifles great for hunting large game, the callers making hunting game much easier. I have sent upwards of 100+ hours huntin bear and moose with these rifles and make one shot kills through the shoulder blade and into the heart/lungs often. I also picked up a crossbow then later the recurve bow when it was released. The crossbow is the best weapon for stealth hunter, being able to lay and fire really gives you the ability to kill a whole herd that walked up on your stand/hide. In order to better my chances and give myself the ability to sit still and hunt I purchased 2 bear baiting bundles and feed plus 3 treestands. Finally I picked my self up the sneaky fall/winter/summer camo bundles. All in I have spent a little over 100 dollars on this game with membership over 2 years. I have spent plenty of time late at night playing this game butt naked with some dip in my lip and can on my hip. Nothing can beat this game in terms of hunting. The pricing plan works out well to not only support the game but support new content. The membership program is the cheapest of any game I have seen, 9.99 for 3 months? WoW is 14.99 and EVE is 14.95 a month while the hunter is 3.33 a month.

Also nothing beats a big ol moose walking up on you and you just looking at you as you put a arrow into it's neck.

tl;dr kids are upset this game costs money but the developers uses these funds to better the game and have constant contact with the community on what they want(except for a african based reserve) If you like hunting games the money is worth it. Kids are almost nonexistant in this games community except on the steam forums which makes this game so much better.

edit: I also hunt in real life, I have easy spent more than 200 dollars in bullets on the range in one day. As anyone who has hunted in real life can tell you, at some point on the trip everyone is gonna unload some ammo.

I have wasted em on things too. When the banner shows something cool and I have to wait for pay day or skip the bar that week I always get it like the day after it goes on sale.

edit: see 30-30 a plad shirt and around 60 mallard decoys.

You seemed to sum it up pretty well. I play for awhile, then take a break...get the short sub, play for awhile and take a break again. There is no need/requirement to have ALL the weapons. Seems to many have an..obession where they 'have to have' everything...and are stuck with having to pay for some of it....and don't realize it's not an 'I win' button.

That was not an honest review of the game. It was a fanboy opinion of the game.

Shame re the lifetime offer but I sympathise your views re the missions that are only unlocked by buying weapons or equipment. OK 4 mission trees depend on the .300 and the 12 bore pump action which are common as they come with some of the starter packs, but too many of the mission trees will only produce less than 1000 GM$ before you hit what is effectively a paywall.

It would be nicer if

- each mission tree got to at least approx Level 6 to earn around 2500 GM$ total
- the missions allowed an alternative set of mission objectives if you don't own the item required

I must research the definition of fanboy; it now seerms to cover anyone who doesn't turn up and defaecate in writing all over the game in the forums and reviews. The term has become as meaningless here as the drivel of those who use it as a term of abuse.

I consider it as a term of endearment and an endorsement of the product we're "defending".

Means I was here before you and I'm still here because it's a good game. :)

(Although personally, I don't defend "the game", I defend honesty, fairness and accuracy. If my comments get up someone's nose it means they were dishonest, unfair or lied...)
