Need help on hunting gear choice
Hi everyone, I purchased the game from Amazon a few days ago and I received 12 GA Blaser F3 Game O/U Shotgun (Custom Grade V), aswell as the SnakeBite bow, and few others things that I didn't really enjoy.

I found hunting with the Blaser really entertaining, rewarding and quite beautiful.
I like the bow aswell, for the same reasons. I always liked bows anyway.
I really like the gameplay of both, I usually follow up tracks I find or calls I hear and then sneak the closest I can without scarying the neighbourhood, and then bait my prey so I can take a clean shot.

I still have basic gear, few callers, but no outfit.

My first question is, do I need to get an outfit to hunt with those two weapons ? I still manage to get what I want (for now, mostly deer family) I even encoutered 2 deers who didn't even notice me when I got 2 meters from them (they couldn't see me, at least for one, but didn't hear me, I was crouched) even killed a black bear (not saying it's a great achievement but still, made me proud :P). I like the monsignor outfit, but since they don't seem to hear me coming really really close, maybe I should get an outfit with visual reduction ?

My second is, will I need a good rifle, with good scope, (because some species are kind of hard to get) ? Or is it just matter of personal preference how we decide to hunt ? I only have the .243 and .270 atm.

Thanks for reading! Sorry for those newbie like questions :)

Howdy! No need to say sorry for asking questions.

Ok I will suggest you look at the wiki as it's really useful

For rifle choice: http://www.thehunterwiki.com/index.php?title=Weapons

The .270 isn't bad but you can't shoot the biggest species with it. Buying a rifle/scope that can take moose and brown bear could be a good investment if you want to hunt the biggest species with a rifle rather than a bow or with shotgun slugs. Some prefer the .300" magnum, others the 7mm Raptor, but I like my 9.3 Anschutz. There are other options - look at the wiki for more info

For camo choices: http://www.thehunterwiki.com/index.php?title=Clothing

There isn't one set that does everything well, and you can do quite a lot with no extra clothing; however camo clothing does work, so it can be nice to have but it's not essential. Think about what you want to must the most of and which reserves you'll be on. I started with the army outfit as it's good for all deer.

Ask away - we're all here to help!

Wiki is highly helpful! My decision was to buy Summer 3D forest Bundle that gives the visual reduction for most locations and monsignor boots for deers' pleasure. And outback hat - it is cool and universal :bandit: When summer trip ends, I hope to buy smt for the winter and autumn, and more outback items maybe.
As for the weapons, crossbow is good for all species up to 60 m distance. If you are good with bow, you will like it. .300 is for longer shots, I think (still can't dare to buy it, but i will)
Good hunting!

I ended up buying the .50 inline muzzleloader, since I'm not looking to get long range shots, and the muzzle seems amazing at close range, seems a little bit more challenging aswell :)

Thanks for your help guys :)
.300 and x9 40m scope is a great rifle or a bullpup 7mm with scope of your choice. boone and crockett gear is what i mainly wear

I use the .308 bolt action rifle with 3-9x40mm (not sure why I see some people say it doesn't penetrate moose or bear because I'm having no problem, it's the darn competition requiring me to use a 12 ga pump on moose that is making me shoot the things multiple times to drop them) and a 12 ga pump action shotgun with the red dot sights. Aside from my Boone and Crocket hat the rest I have is basic clothes. I'm probably going to go with an old school Trapper set later on. I have a trappers tent which I always carry as a portable lodge for inventory. Basic Blinds as well to take advatage of key areas and not worry about the wind and my scent. I have only a quarter spread of Goose decoys, long range and short range goose caller and it's been enough to keep getting them to come down. Moose, turkey and deer 'bleat' as well. You can actually get by without callers for ground targets if you are feeling sneaky but the callers help for competitions to speed things up a bit. If you intend to do any goose hunting or duck hunting, you'll need callers. As time goes on I'll be placing my climbing equipment in key spots. A bunch of gear is helpfull but I think as long as you are sneaky you can probably get by with just a shotgun or bow.
