Re the "how do I tell if it's a good spot"
1 - try googling it; there's an excellent article on the official forums I found that way for Val Des Bois for instance
2 - trial and error method; like you say above, if your bin doesn't grow by 10% in a 24 hr period it's not best placed. 15% would be outstanding! As well as googling for tried and tested spots, another way is to look for an area that has a few sets of hog tracks in it, then bang the feeder in the centre of said area.
3 - even a mediocre bin can get to 100% after a while, but the longer it takes to grow to 100% the more feed you use (I think) but the less often you can harvest it.
I'm experimenting with bear feeders to start with, and will host for anyone on my Steam friends list if they want to have a crack at bruin!
That's what I tried both times.
Alright, thanks.
Cheers!
The best spot I have found is from the tower south of the lake, on the side road from the first junction south of the lakes. Tower 1 on the loading Map.
Set your feeder in the hollow 25 to 30 metres south of the tower.
I have a tent just below the junction, (must be min 400 m from the bait station). I load in and walk the road to the tower and crawl the last hundred metres to mount the tower.
Swing of the road to the east as you approach to get the wind in your face as you get close, and use the scent reducer.
Try to set your feeder so you can see it and shoot from prone through the doorway of the tower ... and the position will be pretty much bang on.
You can usually get up to ten hogs or more feeding there, and you will here them grunting and squealing as you approach the tower.
Your feeder (all Feeders) will take (at least) three or four days to come up to 100%.
You will also get whitetails, mules, pheasants, coyotes and rabbits consistantly in this area.
Another good spot is behind the north barn on settlers creek. About thirty yards north east of the barn and shooting from the back window upstairs in the barn.
You can find othergood spots by checking the hog kill stats of the top players and going to their profile, then find a big hog in their hunt records, click on the picture and go to the trophy record and check the kill map to see if they have a feeder there.
Every ones hunt stats are public record.
Good Luck
Re: Towers - I didn't remember (nor does the wiki mention this) but in order to get the update that the tower is constructed, you have to visit the general area that it's in.
I think I'll move mine back there after seeing this (I moved it down south near the power station), although it doesn't actually look like his is attracting any either, so I dunno.
EDIT - I just found this thread on the official forums - http://forum.thehunter.com/viewtopic.php?f=91&t=66270
EDIT - Finally! x: -9032 y:5642 seems to be working.
