if you have a carry capacity of 20, you can take another light weight weapon and more with you.
dont have to slot it, you can switch on the hunt according to situation. it is after all not a reaction shooter, so youll have time enough if you are aware of your surrounding ;)
but sure, the 243 and the bow is fine if you like that. id take the .243, .17 and a 44 or a bow for the hogs ;) but thats just me XD
will not work on loggers since there is only the hogs that you can shoot with that ammunition (the deciding factor for ethical/permitted kills in this game)
that is all true and right, but in the end its still *just* a game ;)
i do shoot does for missions and to levelup weapons - gets realy grindy in the end ^^ and you want to have a steady aim in early stages of the game.
any permitted hit will level you up and with at least lv10 youll notice a huge difference - especialy for distance shots.
after that you can do roleplay as you wish, sadly you are still *just* playing a game ;) and bound to those programmed mechanics ^^
good hunting
If you keep telling yourself it's a just a game. That's what it will be for you. There are two choices.
you cannot make a map that renders far enough for any real life rifle performance - they all can shoot much farther then any game can display ^^
military rifles like the mosin, 303 enfield or kar98 where used in WW2 at 500m ideal distance without scopes.
modern rifles perform even better - in this game, render distance was increased over time to.... 320m ^^
there is no AI that can simulate an animal brain, and that is the most important thing in these kind of games...
you have the impression that the animal has a behaviour, but its just code, preprogrammed and at best with an rng element if to spook or what path to take.
there is also barly any realistic impact of weather and the basic wind direction is always the same.
this IS a game, but a realy great one - how easy it is to get just a small thing wrong and spoil the whole experience can be seen with CotW and WotH ;)
if you play this like a simulator it is great, its a kind of roleplay - a nearly forgotten way of playing games in times of competition and winning is all XD
but you are fooling yourself if you belive this is more then just code ;) its a great game and one of my favorits, but still - its a game ^^
i cant eat my prey, i and use the hide, or sheds... i can just confirm a kill with my huntermate.
it will also do nothing to free the outback or piccabeen from the invasive species ;) next day they are all back again XD
keep enjoying however you like ;) dont take all to serious ^^
I could dispute all your points but you seem to want to call it a game and I won't bother. I will say once you accept Classic as a game. That's what it will be for you.
I like your philosophy. When you play do you shoot only one deer and call it a day? Not trying to troll, just curious how you view the game in that regard?
I'm beginning to enjoy the 30-30. I will hunt with one for the first time IRL this fall. In game it works well with my stalk and lure style.
Good luck with you real 30-30 hunt. Work on you skills of sneaking in close for a rewarding challenge.
As for do I hunt for one animal in a day in Classic? If i'm not in a comp and just hunting for myself. I do exactly that. I make the kill and then walk back to my cabin with the thought of hauling the meat home.
If i'm in a comp i'll still just make one kill at a time and then move on with the thought of a new hunt starting.
In my state and unit I could only get a tag for one buck muley and one bull elk. Blasting every animal in sight is strictly an arcade gaming thing. I have too much respect for the animals to do that. Even in a game.
I don't agree. I have 15 years in DCS. Digital Combat Simulation.
Real retired fighter pilots agree DCS is accurate down to every detail of flight, cockpit, weapons etc. The list is long.
In auto racing there's more than just the physics. Cars and tracks are all laser scanned. Championships follow the real one. iRacing and ACC. That's why real drivers drive those sims. I've driven both since they were both released.
Sims are where i'm at and i'll hunt Classic as a sim. Read my last post in this thread.

You are converting me!!!
So, out of curiosity...
Trapper outfit?
Weapons you pack?
Do you literally just walk around and hope to find an animal because of no callers?
What do you do with tracks? How do you know you are following the same animals?
I'll have more questions for sure.
Yes, Trapper Outfit. Trapper tents. I use the lever 30-06 which is the Winchester 1895. I carry no other weapon and don't even own any other weapon. It's all I need for muley's and elk.
The goal of Still Hunting is to spot the animal before it sees' me. Sound, scent, and sight are what I have to beat the animal. He has the same senses only his work better than mine.
I really don't suggest you hunt this way without more experience. I love it but I fear you'd end up hating it without someone guiding you. Not in Classic but for real. Just know there's another way to hunt you may do someday. It would be too big of a jump right now. Learn to hunt with other methods first. Even though dad taught me to Still Hunt. I still tried all the other ways to hunt before staying with Still Hunting. Well, except treestands. I never tried hunting in one. It didn't seem like hunting to me, but that's me.
You seem to forget I put you on ignore if the above post is to me. This is a reminder. If it isn't to me. Never mind.
The .30-30 is among the worst rifles in the game. It is too week for its list of permitted species.
Real life hunting experience with weapon performance helps you pretty much nothing in the game.
