I have a secret love of the .243. It is reliable and efficient.
The .300 has delivered some impressive long shots, and seems to be the most forgiving with bad shots at any range
The 30-30 has consistently let me down at any range. Body shots at any range are seldom fatal.
The .44 magnum would have a tough time at a range of 100 m
The Snakebite would a waste of an opportunity at that range. A hit would result in a tracking session that extend past 19:00.
A 12 ga shotgun would be similar to the Snakebite
So.... given my options I would go with the 300 simply because it has a more knockdown power and hope for a good shot.
because you wont have all weapons on you XD and there are many that can take down deer. never used is not so important for 100m shots, less sway will help though ^^
ok, here is mine...
for small deer (roe) id probably take the 243 (still havent leveled that out :( lv18 half through). anything else either the .300 (my advise for any beginner) or the 308 (not so usefull for longer shots over more then 200m XD)
alot of other weapons will do the job just as good, but these are my current choices.
the .300 magnum is a solid for any distance, at 100m it will drop that trophy fast, even a miss shot will bleed it out quite fast.
alot will mention the 9.3x74 and the 7mm bullpup - also fine XD i have them but not using them alot for now (will get back to them one day XD)
just my opinions ;) have fun
I'd use the .300 mag so you'd have a good chance of a kill.
Sure, let it be favorite weapon. I really, really want the 30-30 to be that weapon for me for personal reasons. In my last hunting sessions in game it really let me down. It didn't drop a coyote at less than 20 m. The shot wasn't the best, but the coyote did not die, and fled. After 30 IRL minutes of tracking it didn't bleed out. It is still digitally alive somewhere in Logger's Point. At long distances of 150-200 there are still two mule deer with bullets in them. Could it be I'm not that good with it? Absolutely. I probably am level 5 or less with it. I know full well that had those three shots been made with the 300 there would of been three dead animals. I think the 243 would of produced similar results as the 300, but probably with more tracking.
In game I only venture away from Logger's Point for daily missions. I hunt everything there except pheasants. The bobcats, rabbits and the feral hog make having two to three rifles necessary. Granted most of the time when I go the rabbits I only hunt those in that hunting session.
The idea of carrying an backpack full of guns is absurd.
The Snakebite has been go to answer for all animals. I'll even ground shoot a pheasant with it.
I like the idea of prone opportunity shots when I roam. Part of the fun in the game (for me) is using the environment to my advantage. I like listening for calls and then putting myself in ambush situations. I have not mastered the stalk without scaring the prey. Even when crouching they often see me first.
Culturally, and morally, I hunt IRL with my people's philosophy. That is, take what is needed and nothing more. That being said this is a game. IRL I might be lucky to find a single target all season, whereas in game I might shoot several bigger deer in 3 hours than I have in my entire life.
To make a long story short I want a rifle that can shoot in the conditions Logger's Point provides. That is, long shots and short shots. The 243 and 300 seem to do that very well. The 300 is better at range obviously. The 243 is more forgiving at lower distances. It is steadier at similar levels. It cannot drop hogs. I have a pistol that can.
It seems to me then, my best options are the 243 and pistol for hogs, or the 300 and no bobcats.
I suppose I should save those $gms and max out the 243, 300, and pistol.
True, very true.
I was accepting of the failed long range drops of the mule deer. It was more experimental. However, the coyote shot pissed me off.
I am going to the range with all three and see which I like the best. I think my best option is to max out my favorite, then second, then third.
Even though I can take long shots. I never enjoyed it. I used to clean out coyotes for ranchers and all the shots were long. However, my big game hunting was always close. Elk, mule deer, and bear. I love elk hunting and it's all I do in Classic. I use the lever action 30-06. It drops an elk everytime.
Good luck with your hunting. Keep all your shots in lungs and heart.
yes you can also use a sidearm for hogs or a bow for more quiet shots closeup.
the 243 is actualy ok but i realized latly (with more experience) that its a little weak on the mule deer - that is already a quite big one and the 243 is probably more a rifle for small predators or deer.
the .17HMR suits well for many maps where various animals would require rifle and shotgun or so.
BUT it is extremly important to hit the coyote propper ^^
i had 2 incidents latly where i followed a wounded for the whole session (2-3hours rt) and it didnt bleed out with a intestines hit ^^ (second shot killed them though). any other gun would have bleed them out, even the bows that take longer.
so on loggers you could try a .17HMR, the .300 and a .44!
BTW: your rifle level has nothing to do with the power, its just reduces the wobble/sway and lets you hold breath longer. and you cant level guns on the range XD
here is a performance chart from the wiki if you like to see other results of long time players who already tested what they can ;)
https://thehunter.fandom.com/wiki/Weapon_Performance
because you already have the basic rifles id say try the .17HMR its the only one you miss till now ;)
and dont forget about all the other maps ;)
if you want some more coins, do your dailys and look what else lives on that map and if there is a mission to complete (or more XD)
i done alot of both just by roaming those maps, there is always something to do.
I have a 17. I used it to help me complete the cottontail missions. I think the best options for me are to get better at what I have.
still the issue with the hitreg though XD sometimes it just seems not right, when you see the bullet impact and then the harvest screen :/
however, with more experience and higher level you get safer when to shoot and how animals will react, when they spook and where they will probably run to and how far XD many things that you have to learn by yourself.
in this game is no point/hours played, where you suddently get it and then your good XD like alot of shooters have.
its always different, unpredictable and random.
and with so many species you will never feel like *i know all now, i can do it with one eye closed and one hand on the back* XD
the best long time motivation game i have ever played, sadly i came quite late to the show ;)
I'll pack it and the 44 for hogs.
did you get the upgrade for your backpack (not the clothing item)?
you can use both rifles or a rifle and a shotgun, and still leave the sidearm or a bow in your inventory to switch out on the fly.
During my last couple of hunts I have been carrying the 300 in the 1 slot and the bow in the 2 slot. I have been using the bow as my "Doe Rifle" to eliminate the doe/females that get lured in. I use the 300 for the males.
Being a good hunter is more than killing everything. Do you want to be a good skilled hunter, or just get a good score for some lame mission?
You can make Classic a simulation or an arcade game. What do you chose?
