Facepaint Yay or Nay?
Just want to hear what you fellow hunters think about facepaint?
2k gms is kinda steep for 10 uses but personally I tend to use it every now and then since I noticed it really helps, especially against the more skittish spieces.

Been able to kill lynx close up thanks to facepaint and scent eliminator, even though I was wearing B&C camo.

What are you guys thoughts?

your kills where certainly not because of one(1) camo item ^^ more likely you where not detected, and your personal skill, together with the scent reducer, allowed you to lure & trap that lynx.
once it looks at you though, you have a second or 3 to react, then its gone, no matter what animal or camo you wear!

if they are attracted they trott towards the decoy/caller. and if you dont move and stay hidden, thats more worth then any camo gear - btw, latly helped a newer player to hunt lynx, completly without camo, had no problems to get a lynx alone now for the event.

the overall effect of camo clothing is not so very high that it would compensate for any mistake you make.
i like to describe it the way your binos work, it takes a moment until the spotting info box apears. animals that directly look at you, may need a second or 3 more, but thats it. you are NOT invisable just because of the clothing
only facepaint alone will not do much and i also noticed that on some maps the huntermate doesnt even register that.

one is PBB, already made a post about that (here and in the official forum) but was never answered if that is a display error of the huntermate, or if the paint realy doesnt work - btw the same with the tropical camo cap from the daily rewards!
i do use it there though XD the scarf speeds up the need of drinking water.

although... i use those clothes now, mostly because i can afford it finaly, the sneaky 3d gear is the most effective for me.
excelent visual redux but no sound or scent. for scent we have the spray, and you are in control of your own movement = sound.
these have only a few effective on full map clothes, but i realy dont see any use for summer/autum field camo (for Example) - no cover at all and so youll get spotted anyway. i tend to stay along the tree line and wear forrest camo.

and so.. the price is the main factor to decide if you get them. after you have the basic gear, like a set of weapons, scopes, and callers.
a universal set like outback or van helsing could be ok for the start. maybe even english XD bc the bunnys ^^

then anyone should realy see to get some tents up, they will payback and be far more usefull, especialy at places like VdB and TGT mountains.

grats on the lynx though  :lunar2019grinningpig: they are realy skittish

You want to be invisible? Go prone. It doesn't matter what you wear or smell like. When they get 4-5ft away they'll smell you no matter what spray you use. Shoot before that.

Crouching doesn't do a thing. They see you even if you don't move and what you wear won't stop them from seeing you.

All this has nothing to do with real hunting. It's all wrong.

This is for big game. I don't mess with small game. It might be the same.

In my opinion & from experience of playing 10 years, facepaint is for immersion purposes only. Doesn't do much if anything. A kind of gimmick.

Better off with a face mask but even that, I wouldn't bother.

Nice to see other hunters response, as a hunter that do own most of the camo clothing (dont want chile suits, extra sound? No thank you! XD) But I have noticed a small improvement staying undetected even when wearing the wrong camo when wearing facepaint, not a game changer to be sure, or maybe it is in my head since I am a vet and just like an athlete can be convinced that certain socks are lucky! XD

I like the smallest game! Gives me an excuse to use my air rifle! Also, VERY satisfying to kill a Lynx with a bow!

Nothing wrong with small game hunting. I did a lot of it as a kid. Mostly squirrels and rabbits back in Mass. As I became a young teenager my family moved west and I started to hunt for mule deer and elk. Haven't stopped doing it ever since. As a meat hunter the bigger the better. I can eat 5lbs of elk a week for a whole year from one mature bull elk.

I never understood why meat hunters would hunt for a cow when a bull has so much more meat. I figured they just went after as easy kill. I love the meat but I want a challenge too.

Anyway, enjoy your hunting. Whatever it is.

My favorite type of hunting in classic, is hunting for OldMtnMan, I hear they originated in Massachusettes, and those things are the best to get, unfortunately they are as stealthy as Doc, and they will work a wide arc around you, will never see them, and boom gone, no trophy for that day!

Plus, we taste terrible. Kind of like bear meat that's been eating a dead carcass.

Ooooh now I deff want a.... what do OldMtnman has for score? Beard width + lenght?

That would make them a furry.....

Anyway.... Getting my .50cal muzzleloader ready!!

I use Face Paint sometimes just for cosmetic purposes to go with the Ghillie Suit.

As far as visual reduction purposes I haven't noticed any difference wearing any camouflage clothing/sprays etc.

My guess is *maybe* it may increase time to detect on spook animation like noise, eye contact, smell (depending on what the clothing/spray etc provides) I've been playing since 2010 and I haven't noticed any range difference camouflage vs no camouflage haha.

I mostly hunt for elk. I noticed a mature bull will spot me at 30-40-yds if i'm in a crouch and not wearing camo or trappers outfits. It will stare for a few seconds and then spook. If i'm prone or wearing camo or trappers it won't spot me.

Young bulls and cows are much dumber and easy to fool, but who wants to shoot them?

Just want to add to my own topic, for casual hunting, no face paint work just fine, heck even get a throphy worty animal here and there, but I have noticed that face paint do actually make a difference against skittish spieces and the HUGE jaw dropping big ones.

Since I am not a seer and can not forsee the future of each hunt I only apply it when I am feeling a good vibe, of course most time the game laughs at me and throw me a pity bone!

Sorry, but in my experience it makes absolutely no noticeable difference at all.

Agree to disagree, but to each our own! :steamhappy:

Better off with the face mask. At least you only have to buy it once.
