2-10x42, 3-9x40mm or 4x32mm scope

I was told not long ago that it would be great to buy 2-10x42 scope for .243 rifle. I checked if there are any other scopes and noticed the 3-9x40mm and 4x32mm scopes. Since i dont hunt irl, i have no idea which one is the best out of all these three. Can someone please tell me which one i should buy?

The first number is magnification range (in X times), the last number is objective lens diameter (in mm). Higher magnification is important for long range shots, obviously. But the lower magnification limit is also important for shooting at fast moving targets at close range. If a scope can't have less than 4x zoom, it will be bad for shooting running animals at close range. Finally, larger objective lens is better, it defines the size of you vision circle when looking thru the scope.

2-10x42 can zoom from 2x to 10x, and has the biggest objective
3-9x40mm is slightly worse in everything
4x32mm is just a small weak scope with a fixed 4x zoom

Obviously, the first one looks like the best choice. But there's a thing - not every scope fits every weapon. If I remember correctly, you can attach 3-9x40mm to almost every rifle in the game, is that so for the 2-10x42? Use store or wiki to check.

In fact, 10x magnification is only slightly different from 9x, that's ~11% increase, not a huge deal. 42mm vs 40mm is also negligible, that's 5% difference. So you need to take into account other factors, like how many rifles it fits, the reticle shape, the price etc.

2x10x42 is the better scope. Every little bit helps. It seems to fit a few different rifles.

Well, it doesn't fit Anschütz rifles, which are required for a lot of missions. And doesn't fit .17 HMR.. So when author is going to buy it, he will have to buy 3-9x40 as well, there's no way around it. Have to consider that.

I gave him my opinion of the best scope. The rest he'll need to work out. I don't do missions but he didn't ask about those.

i did suggest that 2-10 scope, because i know @Wolf currently has only the 300, and that scope will fit both rifles.
i use it for the 243, 300, 340 and 308 bolt action (not anschütz).

there are also different 3-9 scopes, so there is no buy one, fit all.
anschütz scopes dont fit on to the 300 nor the 243 and the one that fits wont go on the anschütz.
another one has a blaser mount and fits only one rifle.
all are to me obviously weaker because the lower zoom range, 2-10 vs 3-9. yes that is a factor, to me at least.

the 4x32 is the free scope - dont bother with that anymore, after you have another.

when the time comes to buy another rifle, the scope should not be the deciding factor. there will be enough money to earn with the 2 (3) rifles, to buy another fitting scope.
i still dont complete all, and reset at roughly 240-260 missions.

missions will be a good reason to buy weapons, but one species (waterbuffalo) was my goal.
therefor i bought the 340 weatherby (great power for all bigger prey) that will also fit those 2 scopes (2-10 and 5.5-22)

the often mentioned 9.3x74 needs a completly different low mag. that and the performance is why i dont advise that rifle at first.
the .17 HMR is also a fine choice, with a wide spectrum of species due to the 2 ammo types. i realy like it ;)
and true, that will require to buy a 3-9 scope BUT... an Anschütz, since the one for the previous mentioned rifles does not fit.

good investment to get that 2-10, beside the callers that @Wolf needs now - TMO.

EDIT:
if someone looks for the missions to decide what weapon to buy for them, be careful. there are several calibers of Anschütz rifles, and until you have enough $ to buy those, you can afford any scope you like.

other gear may be more usefull befor looking at incompleted mission packs, like tents to spawn or camo clothing, maybe even setups for trapping certain species (although, i just set them up because i can afford it now - i dont like trapping).

again, my advise is not to buy gear because of a mission, if you have it... cool.
BUT... you realy dont have to complete all missions to make enough money for gear. those where probably released to force people to buy that stuff - prefered with Em$ ^^ ;)
