you have a rifle .243 with 3 packs of ammunition that gets replaced at the start of every hunt.
that rifle is good for small preadators and deer up to Mules - importand in this game is the permitted ammo (look in the store page or in the wiki online).
you also have a shotgun, that also gets each 3 packs of birdshot, buckshot and slugs every new hunt. again, look at the permitted species for the ammo.
if you downloaded the free equippment dlc you have some more stuff too, like med kit and scent reducer. not all is needed now because you have to get into the mechanics first ;) take your time, you will need patience for this ^^
Em$ are a premium currency, you get that for real money, competitions and events as rewards, sometimes. dont bother if you dont want to, there is nothing exlusive for Em$ exept bundels of items you can buy seperate for Gm$.
Gm$ are earned mainly by completing mission. harvest rewards from animals (beware, antered species like deer an elk wont pay for females that dont have antlers. look in the wiki again for calculations)
and events also pay some Gm$ sometimes.
once you get accustomed to the game and increase your income, you want to have a backpack carry capacity upgrade, so you can carry those items and gear.
the pouches for callers (number keys4-9) will unlock by gathering hunterscore points.
all actions generate them, shooting (successfull hits XD), tracking, spotting.... pickup mushrooms and antler sheds and other collectables (depending on map).
the sidearm holster is also unlocked, but that will take quite a while (hunterscore 3000).
the weapons you can/will need later are up to your playstyle, alot prefer a .300 with the 5.5-22 Eagle zoomable scope, or the 9.3x74 with the same. the basic scope will fit the .300, but not the 9.3. ammo has to be bought then, only the starter ammo is for free everytime.
these 2 examples have the most permitted species and will alow you to continue your missions further and on other species - once you got there, remember to spare 13.600 Gm$ for a reset of missions, then you can earn all again.
a 12ga pump gun is also fine, and alot prefer to hunt with bows or cross bows, but those all require to get realy close - something that may be to much for a beginner.
outfits are a kind of camo gear, they have a certain effect but not that much that you are invisable or silent, let alone scent free XD
some of the basic gear is needed on wintermaps (blue winter gear, or you will freeze) or hot enviroments.
those are not required to be successfull, but can help, so dont bother until you have weapons, scopes, callers and such.
now some usefull links, you find more on the wiki:

EDIT: some general advises ;)
dont run or even walk, chrouchwalk! yes it takes more time to get somewhere, but its worth it.
learn about the behaviour of the different species and where they could be (not always though XD).
stand still once in a while and peek (binos or longer range scope) into the shadows and between the trees. look for movement, not shape or color.
use scent reducer, if you still have some from the free dlc, and try to hunt from north to south (general wind direction).
take your time and level up tracking to see the domes further away.
dont give up to soon, the reserves are big enough that you will need some luck, but mostly patience ;) this is not an action shooter XD
in time your will establish your own style based on your experience, but that is what you need to archive yourself, patience and experience.
How about different Weapons, I don't like those, or the species that calls for them. If you prefer to hunt other animals, try to find a set of gear that lets you make the most profit hunting what you like, favor species with few requirements, and target equipment that is used multiple times or unlocks completion to a high degree preferentially.
Cash Em$ is primarily bought but can be earned through winning or placing high in competitions, more rarely from medium daily quests at specific milestones. Gm$ is earned from kills and completing missions.
Clothing Camouflage does have an impact, but you will do fine without investing in any. Most are map specific (a few are valid on multiple), some are deer and rabbit only, and two are valid on any map for any species: Outback and Hellsing. There are tons of cosmetics too, which have no effect, but maybe you like to play dress up.
Other matters of note:
With just the starting gear (12g singleshot and .243, ammo is free but limited to 3 packs each at the session start- and you can take them all into your inventory), you will be able to fully complete Snowshoe Hare and Dall Sheep mission packs, and make a little progress on many more. It'll take a while before you can afford new equipment, but also try hold on to enough to reset so you aren't forced to hunt for money, as even the best animals rarely go over 100gms- while reset costs 13,600.
Some missions call for a gun that has various skins, any of which is valid despite a specific one being called for- to be sure if a gun is a reskin or an entirely different weapon, check the wiki for that gun. If various models are shown, they are skins and all will count towards the mission. Also, refer to this link for mission weapon requirements: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Jtxje2NWfMRDwULFuCu0izECKoDPA5UGArSeJ887ui8/edit#gid=0
The early game can be tough and the grind is tedious, especially when you are still learning- don't only focus on it. With the free guns, you can ethically take all but 1 normal species (the water buffalo) so grab the single shot shotgun (and the 3 ammo types) and your .243, and have a good time hunting above all else.
If you have a friend who is going to start playing, you have the possibility of sponsoring him and thus, you will give him money (EM$) and additional equipment.
If he buys something in the shop with real money, you will get money (EM$), equipment and weapons for free compared to his expenses.
Here is the link that explains it to you https://www.thehunter.com/#invite_friends
The wiki has already been given to you so here is for the one for regular missions which remains the best way to make money over time. Daily missions are not negligible too (-(prices increase with completion) and will over time be easier to achieve. If you don't do them every day, it doesn't matter, reset them without paying https://thehunter.fandom.com/wiki/Regular_Missions
And the good thing is, the 340 can take the basic scope, so you don't need to spend the biggest scope, just later.
At least I have would do that way, if I would get any buying advice in my early game time.
Good luck, and go collect gMs! :)
its a great weapon and will take down big game safe and at any distance, but the 300 or 9.3 have more permitted species.
thats what you want at the beginning, a chance to complete as much missions as you can to make more Gm$
then you can look for a 340 or 45-70. or anything that suits your hunting style ;)
TMO XD
and the eagle scope (5.5-22 zoomable) is wanted because you can spot further away and complete those missions aswell as the leveling better.
for a second rifle I would pick .223 bolt action you can fit a 5.5 scope.
as a last .22 plinkington. then you got three rifles and all animals are permited.
The problem with buying any weapons is you now have to buy ammo too, so that's nearly 7gm$ every shot. You harvested that 35gm$ deer? Your net payout is now 28gm$. If it took 2 shots it's 21gm$. Not a problem if you're an old hand with gm$ in the bank, and the knowledge and/or gear to easily make gm$, but it's a handicap when you're new any every gm$ counts. Your starter weapons ammo is free. Any new weapon you buy will start at basic Level 1 @ accuracy, which is not that good.
My first purchases were the Tenpoint Crossbow and Parker Python. Both have mission packs that will recoup the costs. The Tenpoint is powerful, reasonably quiet, and can be used prone.
The Parker Python is also fairly quiet and has an autoranging sight available that highlights the pin to use. The Snakebite is silent, but only has one pin, which you will find not as useful as a beginner. Bows are best for ambush style hunting, but really shine if paired with a tree stand and callers. Anything you hit with a bow will eventually bleed out and die, all you have to do is track it to find the corpse.
Of the rifles, the .300, 9.3x74R or .30R are all great choices. The .300 can use you basic free starter scope, the others you will have to budget an extra 6000gm$ for a scope.
If you want to invest money in anything at the start then get some callers. The predator caller will let you troll foxes or coyotes all day long with your .243 starter rifle. The .243 may be a weak deer rifle as modelled in the game, but it's an outstanding varmint rifle. The turkey caller is another essential starter caller IMHO, since Turkeys pay very well, so you will quickly recoup the cost of the caller.
Make sure you do whatever daily missions your profile page shows when you click on "Missions". You can easily earn 100 gm$ a time just from clicking on an animal track. If you do them every day then they stack up and every 4th mission pays 500gm$, every 16th $1000 gm$, with percentage bonuses earned every time you repeat the cycle.
The missions are the primary way of making game money as a beginner player, as well as being a good way to explore the maps and animals out there. Try all the starter missions for each animal and map pack and you will make money, as well as find out which maps and animals you enjoy hunting the most.
There's plenty to do, so I'd try it out and see what is out there and what you like before spending cash. The community here are pretty helpful, but be prepared for 1001 different ways to skin a cat when asking for advice. They all work, but some work best if they suit your play style. Have fun and enjoy the game. The early period is both the most frustrating, but also the most rewarding when it works out.

Also pick the free dlc from sore page.
The gun I would not recommend to get is drilling combination gun. It can shoot every animal in game but it's just not really a good rifle or shotgun.
Thats why I think its better than the 9.3,which cannot be fit with the basic scope.
Rifle first, scope later. :)
You can't shoot Banteng, Bison, Polar bear or water buffalo tho, but those don't really give much gm$, so it might be better to forget those early game anyway. You can shoot them with shotgun slugs if needed. I would most likely just take .300 and do some missions tho.
I don't know why you can shoot Coyotes with 9.3x74R but not with Scout HP rounds. You can shoot Bison and coyotes with 9.3x74R but with Scout HP round you can't shoot Bison or Coyotes. To me it would make more sense if both could hit Coyote or both couldn't. Maybe they just wanted to add some drawbacks for scout, since I think it's one of the best guns in game.
9.3x74R is pretty good looking with nice sound. It can shoot bigger animals but not smaller. It's heavier tho, bullets are heavier and it has more bullet drop on longer shots and it has only 2 rounds before reload as scout has 5-10 magazine depending what model you get. Trade off for sure.
