You are most likely using the elk caller, and the short buggle you hear works fine to attract females and males just as well as long calls.
Calling in a predator (wolves) shouldn't even be mentioned. The best bear call is a fawn call but it's not called a bear call.
An elk bugle is a challenge to another bull to come fight. The cow call is a cow in estrus call a bull to come breed. If you were a bull during the rut. Do you want to breed or fight?
sry, this is not right. i use the caller often when i hear a male, and he will come to where i called (moving slowly aside after calling). this is a game and no real life, so both will be attracted to the caller.
all callers are just a programmed triggers. if the programmed animal gets close enough to be triggered, it will. no matter how long you call or what gender (usualy, depending on spawn).
You can call in a bull elk with the cow caller? Video?
but the elk caller does both ^^ the first are most female, bc the male are/seem more carefull.
i use that while roaming and try to provoke a call back by using it once in a while. i often get female calls then, and they come to where i called from.
there are enough videos, i dont record my games ;) and even then, it would only show my game ^^ since this is a game with random encounters, there is no real prove.
Theory: wolves will always come, elk cows sometimes.
Actual experience: Wolves will sometimes come, elk cows always.
Go figure 😀
Solitary elk bulls won't ever come. It needs a cow.
Calling the cow call in game a wolf call is a gaming thing. I don't have a problem of it bringing in wolves. I have a problem that the cow call doesn't bring in bulls. Like the real cow calls do,
I didn't use calls in my hunt for bull elk but I helped my hunting friends. I would call in bulls by huddling down behind my friend while he waited. I'd bring the bull right past them. I ALWAYS used a cow call. I hated hunting like that but it was a favor for my friends to get them bulls.
i dont have any problems using the wolf caller to call in... "wolfes", and the elk caller attracts both genders.
some experience may differ from other payers, but then again.... this game is programed around random spawns and encounters.
what one thinks to be true, is just an opinion based on experience. the more you got, the more likly, but definitly no prove.
only the dev could tell us, what actualy is programed.
and back to topic again - the callers are just triggers!
animals have to be programed to be affected.
they dont "hear" - they react in a pre programed behaviour, if they are close enough to be inside the circle that is programed to be the hearing distance!
It's sad you fight keeping it real so hard.
There is a Wolf "Elk Calf" Caller which doesn't sound anything like a cow ... that attracts wolves and Elk cows.
There is also an "Elk caller" which attracts both bulls and cows.
Discussing and arguing over a non existent "Elk Cow caller" is totally irrelevant.
Strange. I have never got a second call by continuing to hold the mouse button down after the call has ended.
But I have heard a second different call when using the caller several times.
There is a second sound file with some of the callers which is a random option for the sound file you hear. Like the roe caller which has a strong determined call or a weaker insipid squeak depending on which is randomly selected , but neither can be deliberately selected by the player.
It is possible to change the sound of the call by using the shortest mouse depress time possible.
E.G. Both the moose and buck callers can be made to sound more realistic by using a very short key hold. Instead of the long drawn out Chile fart the buck caller will produce a realistic cough and the moose caller can almost produce a convincing bull moose sound.
Way back in the original game coding there was a certain way to use the callers to get the best attraction ...... and spamming the caller was a possible way to spook the animals. But that was done away with in about year two of development, and no longer applies.
Ever use a a real cow caller? It doesn't matter what the game calls it. It is what it is in real life. If you don't think it sounds like a cow elk. You never heard one.
Do you think cow calls aren't used in states that don't have wolves?
I know it's a game. That doesn't mean the devs made up the cow call in the game. I'm sure with some research I can show you the exact call for sale. It will be sold as a cow call with no mention of wolves.
It seems a simple thing to make the cow call in game call in bulls and cows. Why do you gamers complain about that so much?
