What is the Best Clothing to Wear?
I've started a discussion on the best rifles in the game and now I'm wondering what the best clothing would be. Once again I'll describe my play style so someone can give me a good idea of what's best for me and hopefully someone else that plays like me, if they look at this.

I usually hunt big game animals. I'll go through the forest and call for the animals, then wait. What I'm getting at is that I'm good at sitting around in a tree stand or tower and calling animals in. I hunt mostly in summer maps, so what is the best outfit for summer tree stand hunting?

If you don't plan on moving much then the Ghille clothing is for you.

Characteristics:
* Visual Reduction: Legendary vs. all species in temperate forest areas during the summer*.
* Scent Reduction: None.
* Sound Reduction: Add a moderate amount of extra noise vs. all species in all areas when moving.

Thank you. The only moving I'd be doing is if I'm tracking an animal. In which case I'd probably wait for a call and then give it a call back again (so effectively more sitting still and waiting).

Second opinion - if you're calling them in from a tree stand your camo is not so important, but for your hunting style, the ghillie suit is a good option. It will let you use the same technique when on the ground also.

Thank you, Alf.

Personally I like the Outback outfit or the Old Inuit Artic outfit both provide sone sound, scent, and sight reduction against all animals.

Really depends what you want to hunt. For all the deer species the Boone & Crocket/Doc Monsignor is the best. For everything else you would need either the Army/Trapper/Outback set (these provide small protection versus every animal, they differ a bit in scent protection and visual protection, you find more details in the tehunter wiki) or the specific 3 D camo set.

In my opinion most animals that are not deer dont give you much profit from your clothing:

- geese and ducks you hunt via waterfowling, pheasant are easy to sneak up on
- bears you either see long range and take them out or you hunt them with bear barrels.. sneaking up on bears is very hard due to their movement speed
- foxes.. you either see them somewhere in the distance but for me most of my foxhunts come down to "get call, answer call with caller, lay ambush and wait for the fox"
- Bisons.. yeah well.. brown hills in white snow

The only animals I would consider getting clothing for is probably the Alpine Ibex (Alpine clothing) and maybe the kangaroo (Outback clothing). Generally speaking the more open a reserve is, the easier animals will spot you from afar, making clothing more important.

The 3D Camo Summer fields seems useful at first, but they have introduced the Summer Field Camo like.. a year ago. So now even for the summer reserves you basically would need 2 sets of clothing, field for open areas and the Summer Forest for well.. Forest.

Unless you say "screw all deers", get the Boone and Crocket or Doc Monsignor. Once you developed a favorite reserve you might want to consider getting 3D Camo for that reserve.
The Ghillie suit you mentioned is a bit of a mixed bag. It is limited to summer forest so its not doing anything for you in field areas. On top of that it has no scent protection and makes extra noise while moving. Yes you can use scent eliminator, but that gets expensive over time.

I think the Boone and Crockett Set/Doc Monsignor is overall better because versus deer (and deer only) it protects you everywhere, not only summer forests. So if you want to go hunting in Hemmeldal or Hirschfelden or any Summer Field area (Summer Forest Camo only works in 30m radius of a tree if I remeber correctly), Boone and Crockett/Doc Monsignor still does something for you. I am not a fan of the Outback/Trapper/Army set for reasons stated above, I just dont think most of the non-deer species are hunted in a way that would make use of the camouflage of those sets. Additionally I dont like the style of those sets.

Well I must admit, you're a very helpful person. Thank you once again for the information.

B&C is my choice.
I hunt deer mostly and the only 3d set I use much is the fall forest when I hunt red deer in the wooded areas of Hirschfeldon .
I like the look of the 3d in the deciduous forest areas of hirschfeldon but seriously I cant say it works any better than the B&C.
I am an active ground hunter I walk most everywhere and often run.

I often hunt bears on my barrels using tree stands set up for bows at 30 to 40 metres
Bears are strong on scent so a visual camo dosnt help much but with B&C and some spray I can easily get inside 20m of them approaching my tree stands in crouch no problem, and even closer if they walk to me while I am prone.
Running and even walking are the biggest give away with bears. But with scent reduction and crouching you can get close with or without any camo.

Tree stands and towers give you better camo and scent reduction than any clothing but the deployable towers dont.
Cant comment on blinds and tripods because I never use them.
Duck and goose shooting relies most on the hides so it dosnt matter a damn what camo your wearing while your in one.
In a tree stand with B&C and scent reducing spray you are practically invisible.

The 3D camos and gillie suit effectiveness are tied to the ground textures.
Eg the 3d fall, gillie and winter forest will only work while you are on the undertree texture and the field camo works while you are on the open grass or crop textures.
With a bit of experience you will know when its is working by the sound of your footsteps on the ground texture.

If you learn to hunt in Trapper, Army or B&C you will find there is very little advantage in anything else.
Unless you want to look cool.

Just one addition, you dont really need to learn the ground textures, you get a huntersmate app for free that always shows your current "camouflage status". Only thing it does not show is the status versus deer, since thats like a species specific "buff" so to say, so do not wonder if its all grey.
DanthemanBoone Jun 28, 2016 @ 3:49am
Horse before the cart.
Once I learned that the ground textures were the key to camo effectiveness I no longer needed to keep refering to the Huntermate app, just a little extra skill to save time.

And since there appears to be a problem with some of the camo not showing on the app as working .. the question is .. is it the camo or the huntermate app at fault?

If that's the recent bug as reported, it's been fixed - all the problem camo outfits are now working on the Huntermate and in game as intended.
