What Are the Best Rifles in theHunter?
I'm a fairly new hunter. I started roughly a week and a half ago and bought a membership within a few days of playing. I'd like to make an upgrade to my equipment and I'd like to know what people's opinions are on what rifle is the best.

Keep in mind, I mainly hunt big game. I like to hunt mule deer a lot, but I mainly stick to elk, moose, bear, etc.

So what rifles are the best?

I like the .300, 7 mm., 9.3x62, .45-70, 8x57, and .30-06. Any of those rifles are solid.

I'm debating on getting the engraved 9.3x62 Anschutz. From what I understand it carries the highest caliber ammo in the game and delivers quite a punch. It also looks exquisite. Otherwise I wanted to check out the 7mm Break Action Rifle. I'm just not sure how the rifles differ from one another, which is why I made this discussion. There's no guide that I've found that talks about how good different weapons are at different distances, or even how great the bullet penetration. I'm looking for a weapon that can drop big game at reasonable distances. I've been told that's precisely what the Anschutz's does. So I suppose the real question is if there's a better gun than the Anschutz for taking down big game without getting close?

Thank you for the comment though, Whaaaaaaaatt.

Well there's the .300 which from what I hear is a bit more powerful and can take down the same animals, but it can only hold one round compared the 9.3's five. The .45-70 is the most powerful weapon ingame but can only take down feral hogs, wild boar, elk, red deer, all the bears, and bison. I like the 7 mm. bullpup and .30-06 lever since they are able to take down quite a few animals and you can put more rounds down range faster than lets say the .300.

You basically need a versatile big-game rifle in addition to the .243 you already have. The basic decision to be made is between the .300 rifle line and the "Anschütz" line since those do not share the same scopes. There are also the "american" rifles like the 30-06, but since you are new I wouldnt bother with those. They only have like 3 rifles with the same scope, the 30-06 being the only really versatile one, the other two lack permissions in shotting some animals. The only advantage of the 30-06 line is it reloads very fast so its nice for driven hunts, pig hunting and such- that being said the difference to the Anschütz line is minimal.

I personally would try to get the 2013 DVD Version somehow since this comes with the 8x57 IS anschütz and some other stuff so its the best bang for your buck. Other than that, go for the large Anschütz 9.3

The advantage of the Anschütz series in contrast to the .300 Line is on one hand simply more rifles which share the scopes and they reload faster which makes it easier to shoot fleeing animals or do additional shots after the first lets say on a bear/bison or a bunch of pigs. The .300 (which is the only worthwhile rifle of the line speaking of versatility) is more like the one shot- one kill approach.

As for your question, the caliber is more important if your shots are crap, then you will notice a significant difference. A badly shot pig with the .300 can give you quite the chase, a badly shot pig with the 8x57 or 9.3 Anschütz dies way faster.

If you want to be cost efficient, grab either the 9.3 or 8x57 Anschütz with a scope and the Pump Action Shotgun (esspecially if you are into water fowling at some point). As mentioned cheapest way would be the DVD 2013.

Another thing I just want to mention here is bowhunting. Since its more silent you will end up seeing and hunting more animals so most people I introduced to the game switched over to using a crossbow and/or compound bow. Its not really fit for hunting bears though unless you use bait and treestands.

Happy hunting, if there are more questions, feel free.

.300 , 7mm bullpup are probably the best all round rifles in the game.

The .308 Anschütz 1780 D FL Bolt Action Rifle is my favorite for a long time now. It's powerfull and perfect for taking out bears and deers at long range.

Thank you so much! That's very helpful. I do have the Snakebite bow right now, and I plan to get the Pulsar. I'm quite fond of bowhunting so I might pick up a crossbow for that extra power and range. Anyway, thank you for your comment.

I love the pump action shotgun.

I recently got the rifle-style scope for it so I can hunt more reliably with slugs and it's been my main gun for most of my hunts now.

It can take anything!

Glad I could help. As for the .308, that rifle is not legal for Bison hunting, so I wouldnt recommend it. may.adam should you ever want to try waterfowling or an easy introduction for bowhunting from tree stands, contact me.

I'm not too interested in any sort of bird hunting at the moment, but I might pop you a message at some point for that bowhunting.
