medium range: inline muzzleloader
close range: 12ga shotties and old muzzleloader and .454 revolver
these weapons are all great for big game
- It can drop pretty much everything from a single shot, even hitting several organs with a well-placed one. I just got a pig today on the heart *and* both lungs, and the two bears I've found have dropped in one good shot. Same goes for moose.
- Even if you fail the first shot, you can shoot 5 more times in quick succession.
- Great for taking out several specimens in a herd before they get away, too, see above.
- It's got a sight!! Which I personally think makes it a tad too OP, but hey, all the better! Been consistently dropping game at well over 150m.
- Works arguably better than a revolver for close distances.
- Works amazing for both medium and big game, leaving the other two slots for more specialized weapons like the .22 air rifle, a bow or a shotgun without compromising your versatility.
Only con I can find it is that you can't combine ammo boxes, meaning you'll eventually be stuck with 3 half magazines by the end of the hunt.
Hey, when you love something, you love it! Just broke through 50 harvests with it today.
Of course I think this qualfies as a medium range, stilll need to start some video hunting for a long range one.
I love it's general look and reload animation. It's maybe not as acurate at long ranges as .300 i.e. and has weaker scope, but for range up to 150 m it's very nice. However it's kinda loud gun ( but don't have any acurate info about spooking range so not sure)
I took out couple bears with single shoot, and 1 survived the first shoot, however quickly placed second shot finished the job ;) Great gun if u need to make second shot if first failed.
I use it mostly to hunt hogs and deer as i like to hang out with guests in loggers point ;)
I do do mule deer comps though in that starter zone and kill wild hog while am there though. Just lately every on has been in Redfeather falls for the muzzleloader multiplayer comp, so I have been running around with my other newb freind leaving them to their hunt, tracking the other side of the map for deer, moose, elk, and the rare bear. That is the whole reason I want a good big game gun, damn slugs are nice, but a pain for me to use on them, too skittish.
No videos and I'm far from exemplar, but here.[www.thehunter.com]
But.... I have found myself going back to the 8x5.7 lately although not quite sure why. Both guns with 12x50 scope.
I'm going to have to try the 30.06 in game. Used same in RL but they weren't the best for range although game may be easier due to flat trajectories.
(Just looked at my stats - I have 125 kills with .308 and 200 with 9.3 so .308 has done quite a bit of work too. Best ranges: elk, 191m, blacktail, 211m, moose 188m, black bear, 207m all mostly with 9.3)
:D
btw they changed bullet trajectories / penetration / harming power for some guns, 30 -06 as well. As far as I understand the zeroing of those guns will stay the same, but long shots gona be harder to hit. Oh and .300 will have more base damage than it has now ;) Check this post for more info http://news.thehunter.com/ballistics-tweak/
