do headshots have disavantages?
People always shoot in the lungs and heart but any headshots seems to kill an animal. So is there a reason not to shoot them in the head?

heart and lung shots are the best sometimes hitting it in others areas make us do the walking simulator

In real life, headshots are a smaller target than the lungs from most angles, plus for species like deer, the head is often moving when the body is still, and movements can be sudden and unpredictable. British deer shooting guidelines recommned the lung/heart shot.

In game - the brain (rather than the head) is really small but if you can hit your targte and kill it - no disadvantages at all.

Head shooting is generally frowned upon by a large section of the Real life hunting community.
But is actually scowled upon by the game designers.
The game designers, In their wisdom, have made the skulls of most animals kevlar plated to further discourage players from taking that route.

As Alf pointed out, head movements are many and unpredictable but even while they are going on the body remains reasonably static. This is also true in real life hunting situations.

In real life, being hit in the head would drop most animals cold, not nessecarily dead , even if the brain is not actually penetrated. But if it happens in game the animal will run a considerable distance.

Also, if you shoot an animal in the head in real life, the trophy mount would most likely be spoiled, possibly to the point of being unusable.

So while their are no hard and fast rules about head shooting it is not the optimal choice in game.

I thought that on some of the animals you got a minus on the score/ccs for headshots ?

so no less score or anything for headshots since I pretty much always drop em with a headshot.

I think you mean a decrease in the Trophy Integrity, bought about by an extended Wound Time which happens any time an animal is not instantly killed.
Trophy Integrity can also be reduced if you kill an animal with an overpowered weapon from too close a distance.
For example a red deer shot with a 270 at 50m will have a higer Trophy Integrity than a red deer shot at 50m with a 45.70 even if both have a zero wound time.
In some special comps wound time must be zero and trophy integrity 100% to make the animal qualify for an entry.

CSS is related to the highest possible score that an animal can acheive within its species.
IE a top of the leader board Reindeer with a optimal rack will have a higher CSS than a spike of the same species..

So CCS can be used to establish the true trophy value ( not score ) of a Fox against an Elk or any other animals.

score is not affected by shooting, lund/heart is just a much easier shot to make,
the trophy integrity has no real purpose.

I choose heart before brain most of the time for one reason : if i miss the organ (both are pretty small), for the brain, this is a body shot which won't kill my prey, if i miss the heart, i will probably hit a lung or 2, which means quick death.

Also on deers, head can be hard to shot because of unpredictable movements.

On boars and bears, I will try to hit the head if the target is facing me, because the heart will be very close to the ground, and not easy to shoot.

If the target is showing me its back, i will probably try to hit neck or brain, though it will be a harder shot.

Headshots are the way to go on bison imo.

Even a double lung shot and they run a good a bit off. One in the brain and they drop like a ton of bricks.

With everything else your pretty much better off with the heart/dual lung shots than going for a headshot.

IIRC If you hunt kangaroo in real live you are required to take head shots.

Hearshot or any other shots have no effect on cc score

Yes there is a reason not to shoot. Headshots does not make any sence, in 80% of all cases, because the animals' brains are too small, eg. see how big the skull of a moose is and how small compared to that the brain. So mostly you will hit the skull and that means a lot of tracing. Get them lung- or heartshot and it's down, nice and clean in it's tracks! So that would be my suggestion.

the strangest shoot i have ever don was on the bison. It was from 29 m and it was looking at me and didn´t look happy. I was forced to shoot at the head. It dropped in its tracks. I must have aimed to low, because I hit the skull, but missed the brain. by luck it was a hit in the heart.

I have hade some it´s in the brain, most because of the angel when hunting from a tower.
