Is buying clothing worth it?
I'm a free to play player that has most of the callers already but that's it. I have some EM/GM available and I'm wondering if buying clothing, like the English hunter clothing that gives reduction against deer and rabbit are worth it. Haven't had much trouble ambushing deer, don't have much experience with rabbits so I wanted to ask how effective the clothing is and are they worthwhile to purchase. Thanks.

The clothing definitely helps. As you've figured out with deer it's possible to be successful without wearing any of the special clothing. My suggestion and advice is to get weapons required for missions first.

clothing is something "nice to have", for roleplay or whatever reasons.

the effect of the camo/sound/scent was never given in numbers, so we cant say how much it realy does. in my experience it has to be a quite low number, bc it wont make you invisible or silent.

i used the english as one of my first too, and although you can get a little closer befor getting noticed, any sound you make (moving at the wrong time) or wrong direction (with the wind) will wipe any camo effect of clothing.

at best i would say, they let you get 10% closer, and spook a second later. something you can only take advantage of, if you are already safe with hunting in regular clothing.

the sneaky 3d is only visual, and even that is not perfect!

example:
i was on whiteheart island (south) in thick forrest, against the wind, standing motionless half behind a tree, waiting for a bobcat. in about 50m distance it stopped, took a look straight at me and fled after 2 seconds.
in summer forrest camo and with scent reducer on me, it still could identifie my as a threat and run.

on timber gold i was crouching at the digging ship (no obstacles to hide) in english (incomplete), when a rocky mountain female came up to me and walked 2m passed me without notice (if i only had a knífe..)

its not constant that you get the same results, your behavior is more important.

summary:
if you have all weapons you want, and can do enough missions for a regular income with resetting...
you have enough tents to spawn on bigger maps at strategic places...
maybe you have other setups like treestands or baiting barrels (if your into this stuff)...

...then you can start buying those clothes and try yourself - but again, it is the last thing you want to buy, especialy as f2p player (like me XD) because of the cost-benefit ratio.

I use the Trapper outfit for my mountain man hunting with the caplock.

I use the B&C outfit for modern hunting with the 30R.

I only hunt the deer family of animals and the clothing helps in my testing.

Deer family........Moose, elk, all deer.

I can't help with rabbits.

Camo and other type of clothing helps, but don't expect to do wonders. Let's just say if you know what you're doing, it helps, if you're not than nothing can help you really.

This being said, you can successfully hunt without any type of clothing that provides some camouflage in some areas or against some species. Many actually prefer to hunt like this, 'cause the benefits are minimal, especially if you have good scopes and the right guns.

Except Rougarou Bayou camo I have all reserves camos, plus deer camo but that's mostly because I like to be dressed accordingly with the surroundings I'm in. Therefore I can tell you for sure, the benefits are minimal, and they show only for medium or close ranges, although you'll rarely hunt at this ranges, where a small mistake can still cost you a lot of time spent tracking an animal.

The conclusion would be buy good guns, that can shoot straight for lengthy distances and good scopes, and you can go hunting in your jeans and favorite shirt, 'cause it won't matter much.

That's a given if you take long shots it won't matter. Neither will the wind. However, some would call long shots as just shooting and not hunting.

Hunt like a cat. Be quiet, don't be seen moving, don't be smelled. Sneak in close. That's hunting.

Long shots imply to have good spotting skills, and patience. You almost never have the right trajectory to the target (because of trees, terrain etc. ), so you kinda have to assume where the target will move, and if needed move with it. Not to mention some species, like felines are very hard to get from close range, so if you like hunting them you'll have to shoot from far away.

a good distance shot is not as easy as it sounds - sure this is a game, we dont feel the weight and just click a mouse button. still... even that is a skill you have to practice ingame.

i played a few shooters, and while snipers (and lmg gunners) are often called campers, its a role with a purpose if played right - and hitting a moving target (other player) in a distance, who knows there could be snipers and takes cover, is quite challenging, even in a game.

its is just another way to hunt, and as a sport, its both legit.

BTW: the word sniper or its derivate are actualy original from hunting - late 16th century in switzerland and germany, hunting "schnepfen" with a musket ^^ try that today XD

wtf?? they hide the name of a bird? Schnepfenvögel (Scolopacidae)

Don't get me wrong. I take long shots in game too. I just know it's much easier than sneaking in. Long shots are fun now and then in game. However, it doesn't give me that warm fuzzy feeling that a good sneak does.

In real life hunting I never shot any big game over 70yds. I did shoot coyotes at 500-700yds though. Cleaned up the coyotes for ranchers who paid me a small bounty. Something to do in the big game off season.

Camo is quite useful for close range weapons like bows (traditional bows in particular) or shotguns
Pete Gaimari Sep 25, 2022 @ 2:44pm
Or real muzzleloaders. Although buckskins work the best.

What can be a better way to be unspookable than to wear the hide of the animal you're hunting?

The only places clothing is a must is winterrime and the australian maps where cold or heat will need to be compensated for. Ordinary clothing will suffice with scent reducer everywhere else. Winterrime does have a free winter outfit.
Using a multi purpose camo like B&C, Trapper , Army and the English suits will give a small advantage.
3D camos are limited to specific areas on most maps, IE in forested areas but useless in the fields ... or vice versa.
None of the camo suits actually give a huge advantage over plain clothing.

Nothing gives a huge advantage but when you do everything you should the combination of all of it works.

Why leave out one part of it by ignoring clothing?

Clothing, especially camouflage, is expensive. No one is saying not to buy special clothing, but for a free to play player just starting out there are better things to put money towards.
